Taranaki Rugby has confirmed the coaching group that will lead the Central Roofing Taranaki Whio in the 2026 Northern Regions Development competition.

Jason Avery has been appointed Head Coach, supported by Assistant Coaches Matt Goodwin and Greg Plimmer, with Emma Edwards joining the group as Manager.

No Tears on the Field is a powerful new documentary celebrating the legacy of grassroots women’s rugby in Taranaki, set against the unmistakable backdrop of Taranaki Maunga. The film honours the strength, resilience and community spirit of the women who have shaped the game.

Before it heads to cinemas nationwide from 19 March 2026, you can be among the first to see this locally made film at special pre-screenings across the region, including a Q&A with director Lisa Burd and some of the star players:

The Roger Urbahn Memorial Trophy was donated by Joy Urbahn in memory of her late husband, a former Taranaki All Black who was born in Ōpunake.

The trophy is awarded to the most Outstanding Rugby Player under the age of 18 years in the province based on rugby playing ability and sportsmanship.

In 2025 the recipient of the Roger Urbahn Memorial Trophy is Rosie Moffitt.

Rosie has had a stellar season representing her school Sacred Heart Girls College and her club side Tukapa.

Moffitt, a Taranaki Academy member, shined for the Central Roofing Taranaki Whio on the FPC stage picking up their Player of the Year award, showcasing a skillset and composure well beyond her years.

Rosie was also invited to the New Zealand Under 18 Girls Camp in July and recently attended Ignite7 tournament alongside leading athletes from around the country.

Last night Taranaki Black Ferns legend Kendra Cocksedge presented Rosie the Roger Urbahn Memorial Trophy ahead of the Condor Sevens kicking off in Tauranga.

From 2026, the Whio will compete in the Northern Regions Development competition following NZR’s review of the Farah Palmer Cup structure.
