✨ This week on ARTFM – “Making Yourself at Home” ✨

Every Monday from 11am, we bring stories that connect our community 🌍

This week we had the pleasure of hosting Kirsten Lunde, originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, US

Kirsten shared her journey from a rich and diverse career in theatre, hospitality, public service, and retail… to homeschooling her children and eventually making a big life move to Aotearoa 🇳🇿

Arriving in Taranaki in early 2020—just before COVID changed everything—Kirsten adapted by working from home, exploring transcription, AI training, and building something truly special: her board game publishing business 🎲

She successfully crowdfunded her classical music-themed game Ovation 🎶 (with more games on the way!) and has built a beautiful local community around board games here in Taranaki 💛

👉 You can also find Kirsten bringing people together at these local events:
• Tuesday Night Board Games with Flourish (7pm, St Chad’s)
• Blood on the Clocktower (first Tuesday of the month, 6:30pm)
• Sunday Board Games at the Blind Foundation
• Open Board Gaming at XP Games (Sun & Mon, 4pm)

If you love connection, games, and community—these spaces are for you 🙌

✨ Meet Yasi from Iran✨

Yasi brings a beautiful sense of warmth, depth, and connection to our community here in Aotearoa.

Before moving to New Zealand, Yasi spent five years living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — an experience that deeply shaped her understanding of culture, community, and what it truly means to belong.

In 2023, she made the move to New Zealand and now calls New Plymouth home. With a Master’s degree in Physiology, Yasi is a passionate yoga teacher, teacher trainer at Reva Yoga, and wellbeing influencer, supporting others to reconnect with themselves and live with more balance and awareness.

Kindness, compassion, and supporting others sit at the heart of everything she does — along with a deep love for animals 🐾

🧘‍♀️ You can follow Yasi and be part of her beautiful yoga community. She teaches at Reva Yoga here in New Plymouth — such a welcoming space to practice, connect, and meet a wonderful community, especially if you’re new in town 💛

🎧 You can listen to our conversation every Monday from 11am on Access Radio Taranaki, where we share stories of people from around the world who now call Aotearoa home.

I realised that many people who follow my posts might not actually know who I am, so I thought I’d introduce myself a little.

My name is Alina.
I was born in Romania and now live in New Zealand with my husband and our two children.

For many years I’ve been curious about one simple question:

Why do we become the way we become?

Why some of us learn to be strong very early.
Why we adapt so much to others.
Why sometimes we lose connection with ourselves along the way.

My work really grew out of that curiosity.

Over the years I’ve studied different things — coaching, facilitating, mental health and addiction support, somatic approaches, and currently Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.

But honestly, a lot of my understanding has come from life itself.
From listening to people’s stories.
And from slowly learning about my own patterns too.

What interests me most is how the nervous system quietly shapes the way we think, relate, and make choices.

Not in dramatic ways.
But in small everyday moments.

Alongside this work I also facilitate groups and trainings internationally. I enjoy creating spaces where people can pause, reflect, and reconnect with themselves.

Another space I really enjoy is radio.

I host and facilitate a programme called “Making Yourself at Home” on ARTFM , where we talk with different guests about belonging, identity, and what it means to feel at home in Aotearoa.

You can find more about our guests on the At home, in Aotearoa page.

Recently I also created a small online programme called “That’s Me.”

It’s an 8-week space for people who feel ready to slow down a little, notice their patterns, and reconnect with themselves.

It’s not therapy.
And it’s not about fixing anyone.

It’s simply a space to explore, reflect, and become more aware.

If you feel curious about it, you can send me a message with “That’s Me.”

And if you’re new here, I’m really glad you’re here.

"🌿 Grateful for this circle of women 🌿

A big thank you to everyone who joined our International Women’s Day Women’s Circle on March 8th at Fiji Beachouse.

This was a special event and close to my heart. Sharon invited me to come and co-facilitate this circle, and it was my first time being away from my family for so many days. To spend this time surrounded by such open, thoughtful women made it even more meaningful. 💛

A women’s circle is a simple but powerful space where women come together to pause, listen, share honestly, and support each other without judgement or advice-giving. Just real conversation and connection.

Women have an incredible capacity to be vulnerable, to share their challenges, and to hold space for one another — and we felt that deeply in this circle.

We were joined by women from Germany, Canada, the US, Fiji, Alaska and New Caledonia which made the gathering even more special. 🌍

Thank you for your openness and presence. We hope to create many more circles like this in the future.

One thing I keep noticing is how the body often reacts before we fully understand what’s happening.

A slight tension.
A shift in breathing.
A feeling that something doesn’t quite sit right.

For example, I noticed this at home with my kids.

Sometimes when they don’t follow the small rules in the house — like leaving their plates on the table instead of putting them in the sink — I can feel frustration rise very quickly in my body.

Before, I would usually just react immediately.

But lately I’ve been trying to pause for a moment and notice what’s happening inside first.

That tight feeling.
That impulse to react.

And sometimes that small moment of noticing allows me to respond a little differently.

Not perfectly.
Just a little more consciously.

I’m becoming more curious about this quiet language of the body.

It’s subtle, but it says a lot.

This kind of noticing is something I explore with my clients in the programme “That’s Me” starting in June.

If you’d like to know more about it, you can message me “That’s Me.”

Happy International Women’s Day 💛

Today I am in Fiji 🇫🇯, feeling deeply grateful.

This weekend I had the privilege to be holding a Women’s Circle at Fiji Beachouse with my friend Sharon who invited me here and will spend time with the incredible women in two villages here in Fiji, sharing two more circles together.

Different cultures, different lives — but the same courage, the same stories, the same heart.

Sitting in circle with women reminds me how powerful it is when we slow down, listen, and allow ourselves to be real with each other.

I feel very grateful to be able to do this work and follow what feels like a calling.

And today I also want to say thank you to my husband and my kids, who support me and allow me the space to follow my dreams and do what I love — connecting with women around the world and encouraging them to be fully themselves.

To every woman reading this:
Your voice matters. Your story matters. You matter.

Let’s keep supporting each other and creating spaces where women can be authentic, strong, vulnerable and free.

Vinaka Fiji 💛

Boundaries are often misunderstood as distance or withdrawal.

I’m learning to see them as clarity —
a way of protecting connection, safety, and mutual respect.

Care becomes sustainable when limits are honoured.

Practising this.
