Next stop: Takapuna Beach Cup

It’s been a while since we last entered this race, but we’re back! With the club continuing to grow, we’ve got both a mixed crew and a women’s crew heading to Auckland for the Takapuna Beach Cup — a 42km changeover race.

Today we headed out on the harbour to get our heads around changeovers. Lots of laughs, plenty of smiles, and a welcome break from the grind of sprint training.

The goal for Takapuna? Have fun, soak it all in, and enjoy the experience together.

Sprint Nationals 2026 | Day 5 Recap

Day 5 saw the rest of our Te Awahaku crews join us at the lake for W6 and W12 racing, making for a full-on and exciting day. It was an early start with a 6am call time for Choco-Lattés, who were first up in the W12.

They were followed by Team Lemur (W6), Queen Lemur (W12), Team Panda (W6), Team Panduh (W6), Llama Ama (W6), Ngā Kuini (W6), Kōkōwai Hini (W6) and Team Pandemonium (W12) — an awesome turnout and energy on the water.

We’re not going to lie, the competition is strong and experienced, and for many of our crews—just like our kids—this is their first Sprint Nationals. A huge learning curve, but one they’ve taken on with determination and pride.

A big shout-out to Choco-Lattés (W12), Team Panda (W6) and Team Pandemonium (W12) who’ve made it through to their semi-finals tomorrow 👏
Our teams will also be back on the water for their 1500m turns race.

Another big day done — proud of the effort, teamwork, and mana shown by all 💙

Three big days on the water for our rangatahi and taitamāhine crews, and we couldn’t be prouder 💙 From first-time racers gaining experience, to history being made and milestones achieved, every crew represented the club with heart, determination, and mana.

Today we also had Tainui, Caleb, and Teagan head out on the water to race in the W1 500m events — awesome to see them representing the club.

So many learnings, new friendships, big smiles, and huge effort all round. Now we turn our focus to the adult racing, starting tomorrow, with a big few days ahead. Let’s go Te Awahaku!

Sprint Nationals 2026 | Day 3 Recap

Over the past three days, Te Awahaku has been proudly represented on the water by our Rangatahi class of 2026.

We finished out our third day of racing with our intermediate crews taking on the 500m turns race—a great way to close out the regatta for them.

Every crew over the past 3 days represented the club beyond belief and are heading home with plenty of stories, new friendships, and valuable learnings to carry forward into 2027 💙

Sprint Nationals 2026 | Day 2 Recap 🌦️☀️

Day 2 gave us all the weather—cool and rainy to start, then sunshine and heat to finish the day!

First on the water were our inter boys, quickly followed by our inter girls—and wow 🤩 For most of these Rangatahi it was their first time racing. Our main focus was simply to get them on the water and give them the experience of racing, and they did exactly that. We are so proud of every one of them! 💙
Huge shout-out to our two steerers as well—both with less than a month’s training and doing an incredible job 👏

Later in the afternoon, our Taitamāhine W12 250 Te Takere final saw the girls place 1st with a 1:50.30 finish time 🥇
Not only the first South Island Taitamāhine W12 crew to compete, but also placing 1st in their division. A special mihi to Izy and Rosa, our junior steerers, for their amazing support—keeping 10 under-9 Taitamāhine focused is no easy task! 😅

Today we’re back on the water supporting our inter boys and girls in the 500m turns race—let’s go!

Sprint Nationals 2026 | Day 1 Recap 🌊☀️

Quick recap from yesterday at Sprint Nationals 2026! We had two Taitamahine crews racing in the 250m W6, with awesome performances—making the top and middle semis and showing huge improvement since 2025 🙌

It was a HOT day with the wind picking up in the afternoon, but the girls did the club proud. They also made history as the first South Island Taitamahine W12 crew to race at Sprint Nationals.

Big first day—so proud of our kids and everyone involved.

Intermediate Rangatahi crews are up today, can’t wait to see them on the water! 💙

Weekend highlights. Our paddlers are still buzzing. Great weather, great company, and racing that delivered. Photos coming soon.

Our club marked a major step forward at the 2025 Waka te Tasman in Kaiteriteri. With four paddlers in the singles on Friday and seven teams racing on Saturday, this was our largest presence at the event to date. We were especially proud to introduce our new intermediate rangatahi team, representing the next generation coming through.
The video shows the start of the rangatahi, J16, J19, and W6 novice women’s and mixed crews as they head out on course.
