Nelson Underwater Club

Nelson Underwater Club Our main aim is to get people out diving. We have trips planned most weekends, weather permitting. It's all about getting out there and diving!

Dive trips range from local sites, to weekends away elsewhere in NZ and overseas trips. Our Club was formed in 1959 at the request of the Nelson Police to assist in maritime rescues after a young child went missing in a local river. Since then our Club has developed into the largest independent diving club in New Zealand. As well as having a strong emphasis on scuba diving we also have a large spe

arfishing contingency. We are conservation minded, being involved in many beach clean ups, establishment of marine reserves and submissions on environmental issues. However we also enjoy bring home a feed of fresh seafood. We host a range of competitions, photography and spearfishing. We have our own Club rooms and meet the third Tuesday of every month. If you are looking to get out diving come along and find out more. We have gear to loan, lots of trips planned and safe divers to buddy you up with.

The forecast for the weekend isn't too bad so we are still planning on a dive trip to Cable Bay this Saturday. The plan is to meet at the clubrooms at 8am, drive to Cable Bay and do two shore dives. There will be some instructors on hand so it is a great opportunity for a refresher dive for anyone who hasn't dived for a while. If you are interested please confirm via the members area of the website, or alternatively flick us a message.

SHORT IMPORTANT UPDATE PLEASE READ
1. We are beginning a clubroom renovation and would love help from our members. Are there any sparkies, plumbers or fridgies in our ranks with a spare day in the next 2 months and who like beers and merch as payment?
2. We will be having a working bee this coming Saturday from around 10am till 4ish. Feel free to swing on down for a little or a long time, will have the Weber going and a few beers! Even if you just want to drop in and say hey and meet some other club members, we'd love to see you!
3. THIS MONTHS MEETING IS CANCELLED. We will have another venue arranged for the September meeting, but the Clubrooms will be in disarray for this months meeting!
4. If you haven't, please sign up to be a financial member of our club - there are lots of benefits coming and it really does help us having more paid up members.

Trip Report - Tasman Bay Cray diving, 14 March

5 Divers, great weather, 7:30am departure from Kaiteriteri

Following the photography dive in the morning, we headed further towards Totaranui for a crayfish, visiting a range of sites while taking turns to check out the terrain below.

A pretty successful day out with everyone going home with a feed.

Trip Report - Tonga Island photography, 14th March.

There were 5 divers who ended up going on this trip. Weather was near perfect for the 7:30am departure from Kaiteriteri.

First dive was Tonga Island Marine Reserve, and the effect the reserve has had is impressive - plenty of fish life around the island.

Photos still to be judged but below is a preview
