Let's start 2018 with a brand new PLACE event- a Natural Horsemanship Day!

We will be meeting with 2 horse trainers and getting to practice special techniques involving body language to communicate with horses. We will get the opportunity to get up close and personal with the horses, including petting, feeding, brushing and riding. A great day to see how important our bodies are in the way we communicate with each other. This special opportunity may not happen again so be sure to book now for this unique experience.

What a great week! The weather rollercoaster kept these intrepid explorers on their toes, but every day ended with the team sharing laughter and memories about the exciting adventures of the day. I want to thank every person who participated in this Positive Living And Creative Experience program. These PLACEs are meant to expose the participants to the natural wonders that are in their community to show them the magic that exists around where they live.
A taste of some of the things we learned included plant identification, iwi knowledge, abseiling, tide and storm awareness, permaculture farm ethics including live animal systems and composting, bush shelters, cob building, supporting community art spaces, and rock climbing. Every day included team building exercises, creative natural art, observation games, nature awareness and the important lessons of looking out for yourself and those younger than you.
Here are some fun pictures from the week- enjoy and get inspired!

Hello everyone!
I hope you all are enjoying your holidays. I am really looking forward to the program next week- I think it will be the best one yet. While getting ready be sure to remember to bring a back pack with extra warm clothes, rain jacket, water bottles, and lunch/snacks for the day. If you have any other nature related items you want to share, bring them along too. Get ready on Monday for an awesome day of exploring the Native Bush on Bishop's Penninsula. Yahoo!

Hi all!
The much asked for schedule of events for the holiday program is here. There are still some final guest speakers being worked out on a few of the days, but here is it!

MONDAY: Native Bush Day- Exploring native bush in various stages from baby to old growth, with games involving being stuck in the mud, erosion, and some learning on native plant medicines. An of course there will be some shelter building as that is always a favorite in the bush.
TUESDAY: Permaculture farm day- Start the day in the chicken coop learning what a chicken needs, and then moving on to plants and we will be getting dirty learning to make good compost feed for the plants. We will explore the food forest, sample from the garden and play some fun games of camouflage and Meet-a-tree.
WEDNESDAY: Earth Building day- We will be playing with clay and learning how to build structures big and small and we will get to try our hands at building a cob rocket stove and heating some water for tea.
THURSDAY: Delaware Bay Beach day- We will walk across the estuary at low tide and explore the rarely accessed Delaware Bay. We will go to the old Maori graveyard, create sculptures from the driftwood and hopefully see some local artifacts as well. Lots of muddy fun, with a few new surprises.
FRIDAY: Climbing Day- We will practice climbing on steep slopes, low rocks and trees, and if the attention and care is there, we will go to Cable Bay and set a top rope up on the rock wall there and learn the basics of rock climbing.

There are experts joining us on everyday to share their knowledge with the kids. We live in an amazing area, full of skilled people, and we all want to get the kids outside, inspired, and knowing what is right outside their doorsteps.

There is a maximum of 6 kids per day, so sign up soon and share this with any kid/parent who you feel would benefit from this specialty program.

What a great day today at Cable Bay. We took advantage of the falling tide and walked as far as we could get around Pepin Island. We found many caves big and small, went through tunnels, had tons of fun climbing rocks, gently played with sea creatures of all kinds, whispered wishes to secret waterfalls, investigated rock pools, and ended the day on the beach creating outlandish critters with unique forms of defense and ways to catch and eat their foods. What a great day and a big thank you to all who came out to play! Such a great PLACE we had.
