Hi all!
The much asked for schedule of events for the holiday program is here. There are still some final guest speakers being worked out on a few of the days, but here is it!
MONDAY: Native Bush Day- Exploring native bush in various stages from baby to old growth, with games involving being stuck in the mud, erosion, and some learning on native plant medicines. An of course there will be some shelter building as that is always a favorite in the bush.
TUESDAY: Permaculture farm day- Start the day in the chicken coop learning what a chicken needs, and then moving on to plants and we will be getting dirty learning to make good compost feed for the plants. We will explore the food forest, sample from the garden and play some fun games of camouflage and Meet-a-tree.
WEDNESDAY: Earth Building day- We will be playing with clay and learning how to build structures big and small and we will get to try our hands at building a cob rocket stove and heating some water for tea.
THURSDAY: Delaware Bay Beach day- We will walk across the estuary at low tide and explore the rarely accessed Delaware Bay. We will go to the old Maori graveyard, create sculptures from the driftwood and hopefully see some local artifacts as well. Lots of muddy fun, with a few new surprises.
FRIDAY: Climbing Day- We will practice climbing on steep slopes, low rocks and trees, and if the attention and care is there, we will go to Cable Bay and set a top rope up on the rock wall there and learn the basics of rock climbing.
There are experts joining us on everyday to share their knowledge with the kids. We live in an amazing area, full of skilled people, and we all want to get the kids outside, inspired, and knowing what is right outside their doorsteps.
There is a maximum of 6 kids per day, so sign up soon and share this with any kid/parent who you feel would benefit from this specialty program.
