A great way celebrate Matariki…

Matariki Planting - 18 June 2022
Join Nelson City Council at Waahi Takaaro Golf Course, Maitai Valley Road on the 18th June from 1pm - 3pm for Matariki planting along the new cycle trail. There will be a barbeque and cups of tea, and some activities focused on some iconic plants of the Mahitahi. There will also be an opportunity for the young ones to have a go at putting! Please bring: Yourself, your friends and whānau, some warm clothes, sensible shoes and while NCC have spades, if you have a favourite one, bring that too! If wet this event will be postponed until 2 July 2022.

Thanks to everyone that came along to our opening celebration weekend - what a way to breathe life into our fantastic new recreation hub!

We had some great weather and several hundred people stopped by for a look and a play.

Day 2 of our opening celebration weekend - and today is all about introducing you to the world of golf!

Our friends at the Waahi Taakaro Golf Club are hosting the events which include free golf lessons from 11am to 2pm (great if you don't know one end of a golf bat from the other), cheaper green fees for everyone who wants to play a round of golf, and a draw for a free six-month club membership.

Golf is a hugely popular sport in Nelson and this is a great chance for people of all ages to come on down to the Recreation Hub and see if it's for you. Absolute beginners and kids/families very welcome.

No promises - but the weather is starting to look pretty good for our Opening Celebration tomorrow!

There's heaps going on during the day - a massive thank you to everyone who's helping and getting involved.

Come and join our ride from the i-SITE (Millers Acre) at 10am Saturday morning, or make your own way to the Hub between 10-2pm. There's coaching, music, food, coffee, community displays, pump track coaching, demos, mountain bike shuttles - or just come and have a walk around this beautiful location.

The shared pathways leading from Nile Street to the Maitai Recreation Hub are getting upgraded as part of the overall project - and are looking great. If you enjoy a ride on the Great Taste Trail then a ride or walk to the hub for a coffee and scone will be worth checking out.
