FYI - happening this weekend!!
A reminder that from 10am this Saturday 6 September to 10am Sunday 7 September we’ll close State Highway 2 at Waikare Gorge in Hawke’s Bay to replace the Bailey bridge.
If you passed through last week you would’ve seen workers assembling the new temporary bridge, called an Acrow bridge. It looks like a Bailey bridge but is wider and stronger, so HPMV trucks and more over-dimensional vehicles can use it.
Check out this photo taken earlier this morning – it shows the two cranes that workers will use to swap the bridges tomorrow. You can see the new Acrow bridge laying in wait in the background.
We'll also close the road at night on the nights of Sunday 7 September, Monday 8 September, and Tuesday 9 September, from 9pm to 5am each night to complete the approaches to the bridge. We aim to have the new bridge fully operational after the final night closure early Wednesday morning.
