Cracked shoulders are one of the most common issues I have to repair in cricket bats. There are four main reasons for this. 1, The binding twine is not low enough to reach the level of the bat shoulder (it should be level with the top of the shoulder). 2, The rubbers inside the handle go too far into the shoulder creating too much flex in the top part of the joint. 3, The glue used in the splice joint is too flexible. 4, There is no glue under or on top of the binding twine.
