Hi All
As BMA looks to the year ahead, the government specific guidelines for martial arts, council requirements for hall users, and a duty of care to all ages involved, it points to an untenable future, under the current structure. Martial Arts with close contact & grappling training like ours, will continue to be disrupted for some time.
As a result, we have made the heartfelt decision to end BMA’s weekly classes at the King George Hall, and reshape BMA.
Our disappointment is shared with you, but we act responsibly for the community. This has been a commitment made by our whole family for the past 6 years, and we thank everyone for their support.
Our family is going to focus on the basics of well-being, choose activities that are inclusive & proximity friendly. Support our employers needs for flexibility at this time, and the community as a whole.
For those that have brought new Gi’s , from BMA in the last 12 months, and are in good condition, we are offering to purchase them at 50% of the invoiced price - these will be donated to schools able to train. You are welcome to keep the badge.
We want to acknowledge the huge effort & energy the kids have bought to training, and the achievements they’ve made.
Take care of yourselves and your families,
With much aroha,
Andrew, Katrina, Benz & Jacs.

Hi All, training is back on tomorrow night 18th October. We will do what we can with the 7 remaining lessons for the year. (No training on 25th Oct. Labour day & 13th Dec. School Prizegiving) T3 invoices and payments will be transferred to T4. Looking forward to getting back into it. Cheers BMA Team

Hi All, last train for the term tomorrow night 27th Sept. Normal times, physical distance training, expecting all to be a bit tired with daylight saving change. Cheers BMA Team.

Hi All, we are going to trial some physical distance training at the hall tomorrow night, 20th Sept at your normal time slots. We will space everyone out at 2m spaces. This will not come off your term fees, so if you can't come or don't feel comfortable attending, that's okay also. If you are 12 and over please wear a mask, bring your own drink bottle as the kitchen is closed. Attending adults are welcome to join in, if there is space or next to their child/children. Only two weeks left of the term so let's give it a go. Cheers BMA Team

Hi All, we will not be training tomorrow night, Level two is a tricky one for martial arts. We will review weekly and hopefully the level drops to Level 1.
If it looks like we will be stuck in L2 for awhile, we will look at physical distance training. We are in contact with other martial schools, to see what's working for them or not.
Were last weeks training ideas helpful ? PM response is okay.
Cheers BMA Team

Hi All
Here is a basic training session to get you moving.
Find a space outside about the size of the hall to start with. Remember to have a water bottle handy.

Run around doing two laps of each. Forward, sideways facing in, sideways out & backwards.
30 hip escapes on the grass
15 Forward rolls
15 Backwards rolls
20 squat front kicks
10 half shuffle front kicks each leg
Water break 1 minute
Basic arm and leg stretch
10 full shuffle side kicks each leg - add back fist if you can
10 half shuffle round kicks each leg
10 reverse round kicks each leg.
10 lungs forwards and backwards from fighting stance - hands up
10 lung forward - jab - cross - hook - lung back. Both sides
10 lung forward - jab - cross - reverse round kick - lung back . Both sides.
Water break 1 minute

With a pillow or partner
Side control to mount
Walk the clock if you know it - get off mount on opposite side, sprawl feet and move around head, back to opposite side control.

Warm down with another stretch and water

If you have a partner
Shark bite (mount escape)
Pass the guard - side control - mount
Elbow escape from guard
Repeat or try any technique from opposite side.

If its wet you can also do a lot of this inside.

Im still looking for simple videos to upload, but not much luck.

Cheers Sensei

Hi All, hope you are all managing to keep moving in L4. It looks like it will be some time before we get back to training at the hall. 🤨
Training sessions that have been paid for, will be transfer to when we get back.
Remember some of the syllabus is under the menu tab, to jog your memory on some of the basics.
We have been looking for some motivational clips/techniques to post .... so watch out for them.
Until then, keep safe.
Regards the BMA Team

Hi All,

Have noticed a number of students, with coloured belts, still struggling to tie their belt. Please view this video with them. They should be practicing this as well as there moves until they can so unaided.
