Rankings rounds are over and we're into Matchplay today at Gizzy Vegas. Riku shot amazing all day and ranked 1st, I made things more difficult for myself by shooting the wrong target so I'll be starting the matches ranked 6th which gives me quite a tough road to the final but, I didn't come here thinking it would be easy, bring it on!

Mental strength is one of the most important parts of archery - and sometimes the hardest to train.

Recently, Silver Arrows team member - Corban had the opportunity to speak with Staff Andrew, Director of the Kaitaia College Service Academy, who also serves in the New Zealand Defence Force Army and previously served in infantry.

Coming from a military background where discipline, focus, and mental resilience are essential, Staff Andrew shared valuable advice on mindset, pressure management, and building mental toughness - all skills that directly apply to high-level competition.

They discussed how Corban approaches his mental game, the importance of staying composed under pressure, and different ways to strengthen focus and confidence during competition.

No matter how strong your technique is, the mental side of sport can often be what separates good athletes from great ones. Conversations and guidance like this are incredibly valuable for athlete development both on and off the shooting line.
