Mount Maunganui Junior Rugby

Mount Maunganui Junior Rugby Mount Junior Rugby - up to date info for players, family and friends. However, this changed late in 1946 when the Club was reformed after the war.

Club History:

Our club is committed to providing a safe, enjoyable family environment and personal development across all rugby divisions. We are home to over 250 Junior Players during the winter season that proudly wear the Gold and Green colours. In 1923 a group of young men living in Mount Maunganui got together to form the Mount Maunganui Rugby Club, Mostly employed at the P.W.D Workshops whe

n the East Coast railway line was being fabricated. The Club’s ability to field teams before and during World War II varied depending on player availability in what was still a small town. A team was fielded in 1947 and since then the Club has continued to grow and prosper. In 1963 Mount Rugby Club built its first club on a freehold section in Hinau Street however five years later it was found these clubrooms were far too small to accommodate growing numbers, after approaching the council who were keen to purchase the property it was decided the club was to be relocated to Blake Park. In 1973 the present club rooms with two squash courts were laid out and furnished through the efforts of a very hard working group of club members. Development of the site has grown over the years building a further squash court, rugby changing rooms and large lounge in 1981 with further builds introducing changing facilities by the Council in 2008. The club is wholly run by volunteers, mostly (though not all), mums and dads of children playing the game. Like other rugby clubs in Bay of Plenty, our club depends on the continued good spirit showed by all children and parents who turn up to become a part of the greater Mount Sports community.

Get ready year 6-8!

We’re excited to offer the upcoming Yr 7 and Yr 8 Rugby Festival next Saturday 4th July, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Gordon Spratt, Papamoa.

This date falls in Tai Mitchell Week, where traditionally the competition for Y7 and Y8 usually pauses. With around 550 players in these grades and only 100 in the WBOP involved in Tai Mitchell, we’re keen to offer a fun and engaging rugby experience for the remaining 450 or so players who would otherwise miss out. Last year we had 14 teams which was epic. Here is a link to the action https://youtu.be/kg5qCFaglQo

Festival Details:

Format: 10-a-side half-field rugby, each team playing approximately 4 to 5 games

Draw: Randomised

Focus: Fun, mateship, and connecting across clubs

No scoring, standings, or finals

We're also collaborating closely with NZ Rugby, who are supporting the design of the day and will be gathering player feedback and insights into playing formats which may help with future format updates. One key area of interest is reducing ‘positional profiling’, so we’ll be trialing a few minor law adjustments throughout the day, in particular 3 person scrum formations. More info to come on this soon. Don't fret - it is still rugby.

Entry is free and the event is open to all Y7 and Y8 players not involved in Tai Mitchell.

Please register your team using this link: https://forms.gle/HR3DxZ26EpzTPFiz9

(All Year 6 teams are playing at the festival too - you are automatically entered - draw to be released early next week)

Another school holiday option if you need it!

Te Puke sports are running a school holiday programme to help develop young people.

Our rugby programme is designed to develop the whole person, not just the athlete. It is an environment where young people can build strong friendships, learn core values, and sharpen their skills on the field.

🎵 Beats by Bingo is back! 🎵

Our annual fundraiser is coming up and we're looking for a few extra people to help make it happen.

The money raised from events like Beats by Bingo helps cover things that make our season special, including team photos, prizegiving and other club costs that benefit all of our players.

We're looking for:
⭐ People keen to join our Social/Fundraising Committee
⭐ Businesses able to donate goods, services or vouchers for our auction and raffles
⭐ Anyone willing to lend a hand behind the scenes

If you'd like to get involved, or know a business that could help, please get in touch with Lana - [email protected]

Many hands make light work and every contribution helps support our tamariki and club community.

Keep an eye out for more details about Beats by Bingo coming soon! 🏉🎵💚💛
