Mount Maunganui Sports Club wishes to issue the following statement regarding the recent disciplinary hearing concerning the fielding of ineligible players across six fixtures in the mens Premier competition this season.
Following lodging its appeal, the club has reflected and accepted the original findings and sanctions, being a deduction of 15 league points is appropriate. The club does not dispute the fact that it fielded ineligible players.
We accept that the breach occurred, we accept responsibility for it, and we accept the 15-point deduction as fair and appropriate in the circumstances.
We recognise that this situation should not have arisen, and we apologise unreservedly to our players, members, supporters, and the other clubs affected by these results. We take our responsibilities regarding player eligibility extremely seriously, and we are reviewing our internal registration and selection processes to ensure a situation like this does not happen again.
