Who said there’s no such thing as a free lunch? There was clear evidence to the contrary at one of our Mercury Baypark sessions last week, thanks to the generosity of Gold Sponsor Summerset by the Dunes Retirement Village.

Sales Manager Deb Steel drew out two $50 lunch vouchers for the village café.

The lucky winners were Sam Jang and Zoe McKay.

Summerset does spot draws at the club every month, as part of its on-going support for the Mount Pickleball Club.

After many months of discussions and negotiations involving Bob, Donna, Ken, Nick and Bay Venues, we have finally got four of our seven premium nets stored at Mercury Baypark!

Bay Venues had decided they were too big for the storage area.

But, largely thanks to stalwart club member Ken Richards, four have now been permanently installed.

Ken, an architect, drew up plans for an extra shelf to accommodate at least ten of our smaller nets, with space for the premium nets underneath.

Bay Venues eventually approved this idea.

Ken then got the materials, built the shelf at a fraction of the cost quoted to Bay Venues and put our quality nets back together!

He even offered to personally pay for the project but is being reimbursed by the club.

Whether Bay Venues will meet the cost in the end is still unclear. If not, the shelf and brackets will belong to The Mount Pickleball Club and theoretically can be taken with us if we ever leave the venue. ☺️

We owe a huge vote of thanks to Ken for his expertise, time and skilled work.

Congratulations to the following players, who have been upgraded after assessments by Donna and Bob:

Red to Orange – Bridget McGowan, Mike Morally, Rae Mellsop.

Blue to Red – Allaine Roces, Paul Montuya, Jhanice Chan, Fiona Fortescue, Richard Scott, Sharlene Petersen, Tony Snow, Kate Braden.

Yellow to Blue – Tiana Moa, Karen Shakes, Armand Donaldson, Sharlene Petersen, Kevin Kennedy, Christopher Viana.

The Elite King of the Court was a great success, 52 participants played 7 rounds each.

Shane L and Mike P finished first, Liti and James B got second place in group 1.
Jv & John Moore finished first in group 2.

They all went home with a delicious bar of chocolate.

Every year, The Mount Pickleball Club organises the very successful Mount Classic, held at Mercury Baypark; it is now one of the largest pickleball tournament in New Zealand with over 320 participants from all around the country.
