☆Building Strong Glutes☆

Here are some of our favorite exercises on the reformer for building strength and connection to our glutes! There are so many benefits in improving our strength to our glutes, including posture, proper pelvic alignment, support to our hip joints as we age, athletic performance, stability, and balance. Weak glutes can lead to compensatory movements and muscle activation, which can often lead to injuries!

Come along to learn about how to activate and strengthen your glutes through our classes! What you learn in class then can be put into practice at home or the gym 🏋️‍♀️

☆Original Pilates Roll Up☆

A foundational move in Pilates which offers so many benefits when one is focusing deeply on executing this movement in the best way possible for their bodies! This exercise improves overall core and hip strength, enhances spine mobility and flexibility, improves posture, and encourages hamstring flexibility. With a deep awareness to our breath and body, performing this exercise is harder than it looks! I challende you to add it into your daily movement. Try perform x10 a day to see how strong and connected you become with your core and overall body 💪

To execute this movement, it is key to move slow and with your breath. Find a seated position where ribcage and hips are stacked, sitting tall, feet can be positioned beside each other, or supported under a couch. Take a deep breath in to prepare, use your exhale to slowly roll down thinking of imprinting one vertebrae at a time. Take a deep breath in at the bottom and use exhale to slowly roll back up one vertebrae at a time, folding forward to reach toes and restacking spine to sitting tall.

☆Weightloss☆

There is no quick fix when it comes to weight loss or any other health goal. If you want to achieve something, you need to work for it. Weight-loss comes down to 2 main things, energy in versus energy out. We need to be eating in a calorie deficit (energy in) and moving our bodies (energy out). In order to reach a calorie deficit, we need to burn more calories than what we consume, and that comes from moving our bodies more and eating less. However, we must make sure that the food we eat nourishes and fuels us, is high in protein to help with building lean muscle tissue, and keeps us full for prolonged periods of time. Any form of exercise you partake in is never going to outweigh a high calorie diet! Therefore, Pilates or any other form of exercise like strength training at gym, doing an exercise class, or going for a walk will not get you to your weightloss goal if you are eating more than what you are burning.
So, why do our Pilates classes if my goal is weight loss? Any form of movement is helping you burn calories ✅️ But our main goals are to help you gain awareness of your body and the way you move! Working on those strengths, and weakness that may be limiting you to moving more, creating whole body strength so you can move with ease, and feeling confident with movements that can be done in the gym, at home or any other environment that leads to burning calories. Not to mention guiding you to have more confidence in yourself! The stronger, more mobile, fitter, and confident you get, the more likely you will stick with moving your body to help with your overall health goal. Our intention is always to support our clients and help guide them to achieving something that is a PRIORITY to them. If something is a PRIORITY to you, you need to make sure you're doing that thing more than once or twice a week! Change comes with consistency and time 💕

Please note that other daily aspects in life such as sleep, hormonal health and regulation, hydration, stress, and other health conditions will also impact weight loss! Don't be hard on yourself if things aren't working as fast as you hoped, and give yourself love and time to reach your goals!

Mirror mirror on the way, who is the badass of them all 😅

Let's be honest....I know we all don't love the mirrors, and sometimes we may not like who is looking back at us!! Whether that is a mental or physical thought of oneself. Just know you're here today working towards becoming the strongest, happiest, and healthiest you! Be positive, enjoy the small things, and the big, create some goals that will help to keep you on the road for change, not dwelling in what could be! And the next time you're in the studio looking at the mirror, say, "Look at me go! I am bloody amazing"👏

On another note, we love the mirrors for form and visual feedback when verval cues maybe hard to process. Seeing yourself move allows you to alter movements or connect deeper to yourself
