What are we up to? Trying not to freeze.

I don't know about you, but has anyone else had a shocker with the winter chills this year? Because the Martin whānau have had our fair share. One after the other, like clockwork. If sneezing was an Olympic sport, we'd have gold.

Our survival kit? Farm-grown honey and our lemons of farm for drinks - straight from farm hives, so you know it's the good stuff. No fancy electric blankets here either, we are old school. It's hot water bottles all round and you better not lose yours, because there is no spare.

We do have our trusty wood-burning fire that heats the whole house. We all moan like mad when it's time to cut and stack firewood - it's a full family argument. But then you get a July morning, minus 3, frost so thick you could skate on it, and suddenly that fire is the best thing we've ever invested in. We all fight to sit closest to it.

Out on the farm, it's lambing time. Which means we have 3 farms full of very large, very pregnant ewes telling us to leave them alone. So we do. We let them do their thing - lambing bees in full swing. Once lambing is done, it's straight into docking, drenching, and on it goes. No rest for the wicked, as they say.

But here's why I love what's next.

Spring is my favourite time of the year. Not just for the daffodils popping up everywhere, but because it's the start of a whole new cycle. Everything is starting to break open - the plants, the trees, the flowers, and hopefully a whole lot of grass. The farm comes alive again and so do we.

And that means trekking season is nearly here!

You can now private book Te Marama Adventures across any of our 3 locations. Plus, we have a new little secret spot in Cambridge to trek - don't panic though, our favourite Hewson Road location is still there too.

Our first 2-day trek of the season is Labour Weekend, and our second is 14th & 15th November.

We are ALSO thinking of doing a one-day spooky trek in Cambridge for Halloween... haunted bush, anyone?

If you want the Halloween trek to happen, comment HALLOWEEN below!

Stay warm, stay well, and go put your hot water bottle on.
