Mt Hutt

Mt Hutt Big Mountain, Big Days There’s a mountain that rises out of the Canterbury Plains that the locals are proud to call their own and that everyone else reveres.
(4311)

It’s high and it’s wide and most days at the summit you can see from one side of the country to the other, from the jagged spine of the Southern Alps to the West, right across the patchwork of pastureland to the Pacific Ocean on the East. Mt Hutt is Canterbury’s own “big mountain” with runs to accommodate families on a fun day in the snow as well as the variety it takes to entice even the hottest

skiers and snowboarders, attracting people from all over the world. Yet you can still sense the local pride. This is Canterbury’s ski area. The summit 6 seat high-speed chairlift takes you to the highest point of any ski area in the South Island. From feeling on top of the world, you can cruise down the legendary ‘Broadway’ or take on the chutes and steeps of “Towers”. Then when your day on the slopes is done, you can relax with the real NZ flavor that’s unmistakably the country town of Methven. There’s simply nowhere else quite like it. Mt Hutt is scheduled to open June 10 for the 2022 season.

A great day out with the Hutt Crew today!

Lunch, Summit Six sightseeing with next-level views and a mini DJ set from some of our talented crew members to wrap it up. Nice to get everyone onto the mountain again and get a little snow dance on! 💃🕺

We enjoyed a solid 12 hour stint of snowmaking yesterday before gale westerlies arrived last night - laying down over 5000m3 of snow on the main trails (or 20,000 large wheelie bins worth!)

Unfortunately, with marginal snowmaking temps forecast in the lead up to the onset of warmer, gale-force winds this Saturday, opening this weekend is looking less and less likely. We really need another 3 full days of snowmaking to get going so hopefully the colder weather arrives next week as many forecasts are still predicting.

Rest assured, we’ve got the best people and the best gear so as soon as we reach a 30cm base we’ll be into it! ❄️

Here it comes!Winter just might be around the corner, bring it on ❄️

2026 SEASON UPDATE..

We will be delaying our opening from this Friday 12th June to a later date, please keep an eye on our website for updates as we wait for winter to arrive.

We have some colder weather moving in from next week so we should see some natural snowfall & lower temperatures to get our Snowmaking cranking!!

See you all up here soon 🫶
