Big Mountain, Big Days There’s a mountain that rises out of the Canterbury Plains that the locals are proud to call their own and that everyone else reveres.

It’s high and it’s wide and most days at the summit you can see from one side of the country to the other, from the jagged spine of the Southern Alps to the West, right across the patchwork of pastureland to the Pacific Ocean on the East. Mt Hutt is Canterbury’s own “big mountain” with runs to accommodate families on a fun day in the snow as well as the variety it takes to entice even the hottest skiers and snowboarders, attracting people from all over the world. Yet you can still sense the local pride. This is Canterbury’s ski area. The summit 6 seat high-speed chairlift takes you to the highest point of any ski area in the South Island. From feeling on top of the world, you can cruise down the legendary ‘Broadway’ or take on the chutes and steeps of “Towers”. Then when your day on the slopes is done, you can relax with the real NZ flavor that’s unmistakably the country town of Methven. There’s simply nowhere else quite like it. Mt Hutt is scheduled to open June 10 for the 2022 season.

Since 2019 we embarked on our sustainability journey https://www.mthutt.co.nz/sustainability
One of those initiatives was to improve our immediate environment through planting of native trees and pest control. Since 2019 we have reach a massive milestone of 10,000🌳 trees in the ground.
Thanks to all the amazing crews that have joined in on this journey.

PAW WHEEL DRIVE

The 2026 Further Faster dog derby went off with a woof. Dogs dragged their owners around a course set to challenge any human with inadequate two leg drive.

Thanks to everyone that came to test their skills and play in the snow. Sad to say goodbye 2026 winter, it's been real!

It’s official..

Mt Hutt Ski Area will undertake a $12 million expansion of its base building area this summer, with the project scheduled for completion ahead of winter 2027. The expansion will increase the size of Mt Hutt’s outdoor sun deck by almost triple its current size (from 430sqm to 1300sqm) and will be fully heated. The project will also deliver a new ground floor toilet block, improved heated access steps to snow level, an additional cafe outlet and extra storage space for guests and staff.
