Today we lost a legend of the sport with the passing of Dave Tomkins. For more than 30 years, Dave was a fierce competitor on the track — racing solos, TQ’s, midgets, and sidecars.
His record speaks for itself: a New Zealand Sidecar Champion, multiple North Island and Auckland titles, and a proud representative in the Sidecar Test Matches. Beyond the results, Dave’s contribution to Speedway was immense. He gave his time, his knowledge, and his passion to the sport.
Dave was more than a competitor — he was a great storyteller, a man with a great knowledge of Speedway, and most of all a friend whose presence will be sorely missed by us all.
Rest easy, Dave. Thank you for the many laughs and stories - your legacy will live on in the sport and in the memories of those who shared the journey with you.
