📣 EVENT UPDATE – HUNTLY SPEEDWAY SPECIAL EVENT IS CANCELLED 📣

After much consideration, we’ve had no choice but to cancel our 2026 Special Event at Huntly Speedway.

To put things into perspective, we had 106 competitors signed up for this meeting last year. Unfortunately, this year’s numbers are only a fraction of that.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who expressed interest and committed to supporting the meeting. A huge thank you also goes to our sponsors, who were fully on board and ready to support the event. We will be in touch with each of you directly to discuss logistics moving forward.

For those who have already made payments with their sign-up, please complete the form below ASAP so refunds can be processed promptly.

On behalf of the committee, we extend our appreciation to everyone who got behind this proposed meeting.

On a brighter note, we cannot wait to celebrate the race season at our Annual Prize Giving on 13 June 2026! 🏁

So dust off those dancing shoes 💃🕺 because the band is booked and we’re looking forward to celebrating the 2025/26 race season with you all!

📣 HUNTLY RACE DAY – NOT GOING AHEAD THIS SATURDAY 📣
⚠️ EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST REQUIRED ⚠️

Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside our control, we are needing to look at alternative dates for the Huntly Race Day.

The TWO possible dates are:

➡️ Saturday 30th May
➡️ Saturday 6th June

To help us gauge whether this event is viable to run, we URGENTLY need competitors to comment BELOW with ONLY ONE of the following:

✔️ 30th May
OR
✔️ 6th June

Please do not comment anything else, as we need a clear indication of numbers attending and date preference.

At this stage, numbers are very minimal and this event is becoming increasingly difficult to run. We need a strong and united response from competitors to help make this special event happen.

For those who have already paid:

• Refunds will be issued if you are unable to attend the final selected date
• Refunds will also be issued if the event does not proceed

We appreciate everyone’s patience and support while we work through this.

🏁 FUN DAY THIS WEEKEND! 🏁

Who’s planning on coming along to the Meremere Dirt Track Club / Meremere Drag Strip Fun Day this weekend?

📍 Gates Open at Drag Strip: 8:00AM
🔍 Scrutineering Starts: 8:30AM
📢 Drivers Briefing: 9:45AM
🏁 Racing Starts: 10:00AM

💥 Followed by some skids back on the dirt track for the afternoon!

💰 NO gate fee for entrants or spectators to either track

🚗 Drag Strip Requirements:
✅ Current WOF & Rego on road Vehicles
❌ NO competition cars
✅ Take your Dirt Track Car down the Strip and see how fast it goes (helmet, neck brace and overalls required)
❌ NO mud permitted on vehicles entering the drag strip
✅ Minimum Restricted Licence required
✅ Helmets & covered shoes compulsory
❌ No motocross helmets permitted
✅ Passengers welcome (minimum height 1.4m)

💲 Drag Strip Cost:
$30 per driver for Meremere members
$50 per Driver for Non Meremere members (Includes $20 Day Licence)
$10 Passengers

🏁 Dirt Track Cost:
$20 per car (multiple drivers permitted)
Passengers are free

Bring your sponsors along! Bring your mates along!! Let them have a skid!!!

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of long-time Meremere Dirt Track Club supporter, president….and well known Tuakau local, John McDonald.

John and Anne have been part of the club’s history for many years, with memories stretching back through generations of racing at Meremere. This photo captures just one of those special moments from the early days…with a young Nick Sparrow at just 13 years old, Anne racing the Ladies class, Clint Wilson in the A Hot Rod, and Ricky Wilson in the A Altered.

Many in the community will also remember John through McDonald Realty in Tuakau. John was a familiar face to many and someone whose connection to the local community ran deep.

After a long battle with health issues, John can now rest peacefully.

On behalf of the Meremere Dirt Track Club, we extend our sincere condolences to Anne, family, and friends during this difficult time.

Rest easy, John. 💙

🔧 Scrutineering: 1:30pm – 2:45pm
🗣 Drivers Briefing: 3:30pm
🏁 Green Flag Drops: 4:00pm SHARP!

We’re on a tight schedule this weekend, so we need everyone on the ball to help get through the full race program smoothly. 👊

We’re also looking for a couple of helpers for:
✅ Gate Duty
✅ Belt Checking

If you can lend a hand, yell out before Saturday and you’ll receive a FREE gate entry pass for helping out! 🙌
