📢 JUNIOR PRIZE GIVING – DATE CHANGE 📢

Due to our Junior Prize Giving clashing with Northland’s next Ranfurly Shield defence, we have made the decision to change the date.

🏉💚💛 MID-WESTERN JUNIOR PRIZEGIVING 2026 💛💚🏉

It’s time to celebrate our Junior players and another fantastic season of Mid-Western Rugby!

📅 Saturday 12 September
⏰ Starting at 12pm

Come along and help us congratulate all of our junior players on their efforts and achievements throughout the season.
Following prizegiving, we’ll have a shared meal, so we ask everyone to please bring a plate of food to share.
And to finish the day off, there’ll be a bit of fun on the field… 👀

🏉 The Under 13 team will take on the parents!
We’re sure there’ll be plenty of confidence from both sides before kickoff! 😂

It’s always a great day bringing our players, families, coaches and supporters together to celebrate the season.
We’d love to see a big Mid-Western turnout!

🏆 BACK OF THE YEAR • PLAYERS’ PLAYER • PLAYER OF THE YEAR – LUKE NISSEN 🏆

Taking home three of our major awards for 2026 is Luke Nissen.

After a stellar first season in 2025, Luke has continued to get better and better, putting together an outstanding season for Mid Western.

Luke was one of only two players to play every minute of the season, showing incredible consistency and durability across the year.

With ball in hand he was a constant threat, finishing as our leading try scorer with 8 tries.

But Luke’s contribution went well beyond attack. He was a dependable defender who regularly came up with important tackles and plenty of try-saving efforts when the team needed them most.

From halfback he also showed real leadership, constantly organising and marshalling his forwards around the field. His decision-making and understanding of the game showed just how good his rugby brain is.

To be named Back of the Year, voted Players’ Player by his teammates, and then take home the club’s Player of the Year award says everything about the season Luke had.

An outstanding year and three thoroughly deserved awards.

🏆 TEAM MAN – SERGIO LA FUENTE 🏆

The winner of our 2026 Team Man Award is Sergio La Fuente.

Before the season had even started, Sergio had put his hand up to help coach the forwards. With his vast knowledge and experience in the game, it looked like the perfect role for him.

As the season unfolded though, things went a little differently!

Not only did Sergio continue to help with the coaching, but he also ended up pulling the boots back on and playing every game this season — including a number of full 80-minute performances.

That probably says everything you need to know about Sergio. If the team or the club needs him, he is there.

Sergio has been a tremendous servant to Mid Western for many years, giving plenty to the club both on and off the field. His experience, commitment and willingness to do whatever is needed have made him an invaluable part of the group.

This award is thoroughly deserved.

Congratulations Sergio, and thank you for everything you continue to give to Mid Western. 💚💛

🏆 FORWARD OF THE YEAR – DAN ROOSE 🏆

The winner of our 2026 Forward of the Year Award is Dan Roose.

Dan was one of only two players to play every minute of the season — an outstanding achievement, and no easy task, especially as one of the more experienced players in the side.

Whether he was packing down at prop or playing in the second row, Dan used his size and physicality to be an intimidating presence on both sides of the ball.

He was a constant threat in attack, carried strongly, and brought plenty of impact defensively as well.

That influence really showed when we tallied up the tries at the end of the season, with Dan finishing second on the team with 7 tries.

A huge season from one of the most consistent performers in the squad.

Congratulations Dan — a very well-deserved Forward of the Year! 💚💛

🏆 SUPPORTERS OF THE YEAR – KIM & KIRSTY HAMILTON 🏆

Our 2026 Supporters of the Year, as voted for by the players, are Kim and Kirsty Hamilton.

We’re extremely lucky at Mid Western to have so many great supporters who turn up week after week and get behind the boys. This year, though, Kim and Kirsty really stood out.

Long-time members and supporters of the club, they had a little extra motivation to get down to the rugby this season with their son Herbie making his senior debut.

And they certainly made the most of it — Kim and Kirsty made it to every single game this season!

Whether we were at home or on the road, they were there on the sideline supporting the team. That sort of commitment means a huge amount to the players and to the club.

It’s been great having you both there every week, and we hope to see you back on the sidelines again next season!

🏆 CLUB MEMBER – ABOVE & BEYOND 🏆

This year, our Club Member Above & Beyond Award was presented to Jason Avison.

Jase is an ever-present figure around Mid Western and is always willing to put his hand up whenever something needs doing.

This season he regularly came along to help at trainings, took care of the pre-game strapping, and also stepped in as touch judge on game day. On top of that, he was always there to help with whatever else needed doing.

But this award isn’t just about this season.

Jase has been doing these sorts of jobs for the club for many years, often quietly and without fuss. People like him are a huge part of what keeps a community rugby club running.

We’re extremely lucky to have him as part of Mid Western.

Congratulations Jase, and thank you for everything you continue to do for the club. 💚💛

🏆 COMMITTEE MEMBER – ABOVE & BEYOND 🏆

This year, the trophy recognizing the committee member who went above and beyond was presented to Dr Tanya Quin.

2026 brought a huge amount of work behind the scenes for sporting and social clubs, with clubs required to re-register under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. For Mid-Western, this included the significant task of reviewing and updating our club constitution.

This was no small job, and it required a huge amount of time, care and attention to make sure everything was completed properly.

We are extremely fortunate to have someone like Tanya on our committee. She took responsibility for this process and put in countless hours behind the scenes to get it completed for the club.

A lot of the work that keeps a rugby club running happens away from the field and often goes unseen. Tanya’s contribution this year is a perfect example of that.

A very well-deserved recognition. Congratulations Tanya and thank you for everything you do for Mid-Western. 💚💛

🏆 TEAM JESTER – JACK BROWNLEE 🏆

The winner of our 2026 Team Jester Award is Jack Brownlee.

In a season full of great memories and plenty of laughs, JB was often right at the centre of them.

He’s a great guy to have around the team and someone who brings plenty of energy, humour and character to the group.

Every team needs someone who keeps the boys entertained, and JB certainly filled that role this season.

We’re looking forward to plenty more from him — both on and off the field — next season.
