Results for todays Medal and Putting.

Reasonable weather (compared to what we've had) greeted the field today, with a few puddles not affecting play to much and the softish greens making it easy to attack the pins.

Congratulations to Dean Baxter, who took home this months Transport Repairs monthly Medal with a very tidy 73-4-69, well done also to Sam winning the ladies medal with a nett 71.

See also the Stroke Draw. Good luck to everyone please get in touch with your playing partners to organize your matches as the first round needs to be played by the 3rd of October.

We are going ahead with golf today, it’s going to be wet underfoot so take relief where needed, placing in fairway AND rough and NO CARTS.
It is Medal and putt also last stroke qualifying! See you all this afternoon 😊

No golf today folks. Grounds committee has deemed the course is still too inundated with water and too soft to get the mower onto the greens.
Medal and putt + final qualifying round will be pushed to next week.

A few months on from what was a pretty special night at the club, it’s great to see Mel and Murray Borthwick’s contribution recognized again in the recent newspaper article linked below.

We had a packed clubhouse that night, with family, friends and fellow members coming together to see Mel and Murray each awarded Life Membership of the club.

Both have given an enormous amount to the club over many years – through committees, club administration, pennants, tournaments, working bees, course improvements and plenty of jobs behind the scenes that most people never see.

More importantly, both genuinely care about the club, its members and the camaraderie that makes our club what it is.

It was a great night, plenty of stories and laughs, and a fitting way to recognize two people who have contributed so much and continue to be a big part of the club.

Congratulations again Mel and Murray – two very deserving Life Members. 🍻⛳

The club is saddened to have to acknowledge the passing of Life member John Williams.

He & Helen joined the club in 1984 & quickly became heavily involved in all aspects of the club.
John was always on hand to pitch in, not just with his time but also supplying the machinery & materials required for a particular project.
John served on the club committee for many years & also had stints as Club Captain & President.
He and Helen started & ran the very successful Husband & Wife tournament for over 20 years.
John was the club bar manager for 15+ years & always served with a smile & a measure of good natured humour.
He became a Southland Eagle in 2003 & was awarded a well deserved Life membership to the Mataura Golf Club in 2010.
John was always a pleasure to play with - he relished the haggle & enjoyed a bit of cheeky banter along the way.

Condolences from everyone at the club to Helen, Judy, Diane, Steven, Terry & families for the loss of a special man.
RIP John

There will be a service for John at the Gore Catholic Church, this Friday at 1.30pm.
All golfers past & present are invited to form a guard of honour at the end of the service.
