🏟️ It takes a community to build a community facility. ❤️

Have you ever wondered who makes the Open Country Community Stadium – Te Whare Hui Ora happen?

It all started with a vision from Bruce Magan and the Matamata Futures Trust to create a new community sporting facility for Matamata.

Today, that vision continues through the work of many:

📱 Matamata Futures Trust – social media and engagement
🏢 Matamata-Piako District Council – day-to-day operation and management
🏫 Matamata College – school use and activities

And, of course, the many funders, sponsors, clubs, schools, volunteers and community members who have helped bring the Stadium to life. 🙌

It really is a community effort — built from a shared vision, supported by many, and here for everyone. ❤️

This week, we’re incredibly proud to see so many talented young athletes from Matamata and our surrounding communities taking on the best at the AIMS Games in Tauranga! 🙌

AIMS Games is a huge opportunity for our young people to compete, challenge themselves, make memories and represent their schools and communities — and we’re cheering them on every step of the way. 💪👏

Whether you’re out on the court, field, track or wherever your sport takes you this week — play hard, back your teammates and enjoy the experience! ❤️

🌟 A very special connection to the Open Country Community Stadium!

We’re so proud to see ex-Matamata College student, Jake McDell, nominated for Young Achiever of the Year in the Central Property People Awards! 👏🤩

Jake, from Fosters BOP, has gone from Senior Quantity Surveyor when he joined Fosters in 2021, to Commercial Manager and shareholder, and now leads their Bay of Plenty QS team.

But what makes this nomination particularly special for us is Jake’s connection to Matamata and the Stadium.

Having once walked the halls of Matamata College himself, Jake has now played a part in helping bring the Open Country Community Stadium to life — a facility that will provide opportunities for the next generation of Matamata students and the wider community for years to come. 🏟️❤️

Jake is also passionate about supporting the next generation in his industry, mentoring young quantity surveyors and helping create pathways into the profession.

It’s pretty special to see someone who grew up here now helping shape the future of our community. 🙌

Congratulations Jake — we’re incredibly proud to see you recognised, and we wish you all the best for the awards! 👏🎉
