"Order! I said Order!" Mr Blackwell shouted to calm the noisy stomach groans and excited chatter in the room. He smacked his chairman's gavel on the oak table to jolt the room into quiet discipline. "The augural Greytown Pie Club Tasting Session is about to commence and I'd like to work through the rules of engagement."

Laid out on the table were a selection of eight pies, purchased from various Greytown institutions, all warmed to optimum pie perfection; well above dairy-level lukewarm but not scalding-service station hot, thus risking injury.

"Firstly, each unit will be eaten in successive order with the left hand engaged by supporting the pie in close proximity to the tasting apparatus, while review notes can be written simultaneously with the right hand," he explained. "Secondly, there will be no dilly dallying. The pies must be consumed while they at their peak. One will not leave the session until the mission is complete. And thirdly, this session is a sacred one. What is observed, learned or experienced in this exercise will remain strictly secret so others, including our most precious loved ones, never learn of what is about to take place. Do I hear any objections?"

The room remained silent, mostly because there was no one else present.

"Right, let's get started."

In 1975, one of the cooler boys, Ian, who lived a few doors down from Mr Blackwell's Ruru Cres home in Heretaunga, got a Chopper for his birthday. Everyone stood around looking at it in awe. It was quite possibly the coolest bike in the known universe. Patiently waiting his turn, which was of course last, Mr Blackwell summoned up the courage and, helmetless, took the bright yellow Chopper for a short ride down the driveway onto the road ... and hearing a car coming around the corner, panicked and smacked straight into the gutter. A sudden and complete halt of the bike's small front wheel propelled the delicate boy onto the middle gear shift and into a world of pain he had never experienced before.

That was the last time Mr Blackwell ever straddled a Chopper. Partly because Ian never let him near his bike again but mostly due to the haunting memory of unfathomable pain the poorly designed gear shift scarred him with.

From a technical perspective the Chopper was a disaster. But like Danny in Grease or Han Solo in Star Wars, it oozed cool. We salute the Chopper here with a re-release of one of our coolest tee shirts in the Mr Blackwell's Outfitters collection. Be seen wearing a Chopper this summer.

Need advice? Of course you do. Mr Blackwell's unfiltered advice on personal grooming, how to make a perfect dry martini, or successful romance techniques can be found in ADVICE, provided with his compliments when you purchase any tee shirt in the Mr Blackwell's Outfitters range. Mr Blackwell designed it to be roughly the same size as your phone so you can read it in the dunny.

"However, I understand some young men may require advice on other topics or will have very specific questions related to a forthcoming romantic excursion," explains Mr Blackwell. "They can contact me on this channel. There is no charge for my advice but I reserve the right to publish both the question and my response openly and with the advice-seeker clearly identified."

Mr Blackwell, now 60, has been dishing out unrequested advice to younger men for most of his adult life.

"Let's face it," he says with excessive confidence. "My generation had it way too easy. We spent our youth playing spacies and D&D and making stunt videos of each other jumping out of moving vehicles. Complete morons. We were largely ill equipped to pass on anything useful to our own children. So while I can't offer advice on life's more practical challenges like how to unblock a toilet, I can help younger men with some basics on cleanliness and personal presentation, cocktail techniques, and how to choose the right tee shirt to wear at a job interview. Stuff like that."

Our NEW Forces Supply Co tees acknowledge aspects of our military history and celebrate those who serve with a donation to the Royal New Zealand RSA with every tee purchased.

HMNZS Achilles was a Leander-class light cruiser, the second of five in the class. She served in the Royal New Zealand Navy in the Second World War. She was launched in 1932 as HMS Achilles for the Royal Navy, placed in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy in 1936, and transferred to the new Royal New Zealand Navy in 1941. As HMS Achilles, with a mix of British and New Zealand crew, she became famous for her part in the Battle of the River Plate in 1939, alongside HMS Ajax and HMS Exeter and notable for being the first Royal Navy cruiser to have fire control radar, with the installation of the New Zealand-made SS1 fire-control radar in June 1940.
