We are honoured to host the 2026 Golden Shears Shearing & Woolhandling World Championships, 4–7 March, Masterton War Memorial Stadium, 2 Dixon Street, New Zealand. The world's premier shearing and woolhandling championship takes place in Masterton, 'capital' of New Zealand's Wairarapa region. The Golden Shears logo has become an internationally recognised trademark that symbolises both quality and

excellence in the skilful art of shearing and woolhandling. The three day event encompasses novice, junior, intermediate, senior and open shearing competitions along with junior, senior and open wool handling events and singles wool pressing competitions, as well as the coveted triathlon award. From the dreams and inspirations of a few enthusiastic young farmers many years ago, the greatest shearing competition in the world was born.

And here's the dream team of commentators from the 2026 Golden Shears and Worlds Championships.

Engaging, entertaining, and knowledgeable - even the most clueless Golden Shears and Worlds newbie couldn't help but get excited. Without them we'd have been a little bit lost and confused, and with them we have a new appreciation for the event and the industry!

From back left - Tuma Mullins, Rowena Duncum, Shane Ratima, Mavis Mullins, John McBride, Tristan Mackay, Digger Balme and Gerald Spain. (Unfortunately, Norm Harraway and Nuki Gordon were missing in action for the photo).

On behalf of the Golden Shears Committee; the spectators; all the people watching the streaming; the competitors and everyone who was in the Fan Zone. Thank you!!

A vibrant flock of sheep at the north entrance to Masterton was unveiled on the eve of the 2026 Golden Shears competitions. ‘Flock of Champions’ celebrates the international shearing community – reflecting the town’s proud rural heritage and home of the Golden Shears.

Featuring a flock of brightly painted life-sized sheep sculptures, the artwork was commissioned by Masterton Trust Lands Trust with support from Masterton District Council , Trust House and Resene.

The new artwork was a year in the making – created especially to welcome the international shearing community for this week’s Golden Shears World Shearing and Woolhandling Championships.
