A Red Heavy Rain Warning is in place until midnight Tuesday 21 April.

Rain is set to become steady and heavy from now, with the chance of thunderstorms developing. This looks to be a prolonged weather event, so conditions could intensify over time.

Please stay safe — limit travel where you can, keep up with local updates, and make sure your animals are warm, dry, and secure 🐾

As you'll likely know, a cyclone is expected to hit Masterton tomorrow, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and rapidly changing conditions. Now’s the time to secure your property and please remember your pets.

Bring them indoors early, as high winds, loud noise, and falling debris can cause distress or injury. Ensure they have a safe, quiet space, fresh water, and identification in case they become unsettled.

Stay alert, check on your neighbours, and keep up to date with official weather warnings. Stay safe.

🍫 Easter + Dogs = Danger 🐾

Easter Sunday is just two days away so here's a friendly reminder: Chocolate is toxic to dogs and can quickly become an emergency.

Keep all Easter treats out of reach and ask family and visitors not to share their chocolate treats with your dogs.

⚠️ If your dog eats chocolate:
Check what and how much was eaten.
Call your vet or an emergency clinic straight away.

Fast action can make all the difference.

🐾 Meet Your WoofStock Wairarapa 2027 Host – Cheryl Smith 🐾

We’re so excited to introduce Cheryl Smith, one of the passionate humans helping bring WoofStock Wairarapa 2027 to life!

Cheryl is the founder of FurFam NZ Ltd, and she’s on a mission to help dogs live naturally healthy lives by making high-quality, natural products accessible to New Zealand pet parents.

Her dog journey began with her very first dog, Chance the Smooth Collie, followed by Layla, her much-loved rescue. But everything changed when her first miniature dachshund, Barkley, trotted into her world. Cheryl fell down the training rabbit hole — exploring obedience, rally-o, and completing a certificate in concept training.

Not long after, Ace joined the family… and then Parker arrived — because apparently two dachshunds simply wasn’t enough! These days it’s officially a three-sausage household, full of personality, noise, and more love than seems possible.

When Barkley was diagnosed with IVDD, Cheryl’s focus turned deeply toward health and nutrition. Determined to give her dogs the very best chance at thriving, she immersed herself in learning everything she could about natural wellness. What started as self-education quickly grew into a bigger purpose.

Frustrated that many high-quality supplements available overseas weren’t accessible here, Cheryl decided to change that. FurFam NZ Ltd was born from a simple goal: to bring natural, human-grade products with no synthetic additives to New Zealand pet parents — products that genuinely support better health. She now works alongside New Zealand manufacturers to make that vision a reality.

When she’s not working with dogs or planning WoofStock, Cheryl enjoys the quiet country life on the lifestyle block she and her husband are renovating — although “quiet” is a relative term in a house run by three miniature dachshunds.

Cheryl can’t wait to celebrate everything dog with the Wairarapa community at WoofStock 2027! 🐶✨

🐾 Meet Your WoofStock Wairarapa 2027 Host – April Williams 🐾

We’re excited to introduce one of the hosts behind WoofStock Wairarapa 2027 – April Williams, owner of All About the Hound and a passionate advocate for positive, welfare-focused dog care.

April is a qualified, internationally certified dog trainer and behaviour professional who uses positive-reinforcement training methods to support dogs through every stage of development, from early puppyhood, the challenges of adolescence and adulthood.

She is a proud member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers New Zealand (APDTNZ) and an APDTNZ Endorsed Trainer. April is also a CANZ (Companion Animals New Zealand) Animal Training Instructor and Accredited Animal Trainer, a Licensed UnChase Trainer, and a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (CTP) and KPA Customer Endorsed Trainer.

April's work centres around helping guardians understand how dogs learn and how behaviour is shaped, creating practical, evidence-based solutions that strengthen relationships. Alongside her training services, April is an IPG certified professional groomer and brings her behaviour expertise into the grooming space, offering low-stress, one-to-one grooming that supports a dog’s emotional comfort and confidence and prioritises calm, positive experiences for the dog.
As the owner of All About the Hound, April is committed to raising awareness of evidence-based practice within both training and grooming communities.

Outside of her professional work, April enjoys training with her own dog Monty, and spending quality time with friends — whether that’s dinner out, a trip to the cinema, attending local events, or exploring a good market.

April is incredibly excited to be part of bringing WoofStock Wairarapa 2027 to life and can’t wait to celebrate all things dog with the community!

Early Expressions of Interest

We are excited to share that planning is well underway for Woofstock Wairarapa – March 2027.

Woofstock will be a community-focused celebration of dogs and the people who love them, with a strong emphasis on responsible dog ownership, connection, and canine well-being.

This event will champion:

Reward-based training methods

Clear, kind communication between dogs and handlers

Holistic health and wellbeing

A connected, educated dog community

Our vision is to create a welcoming space where dog owners can learn, connect, discover trusted products and services, and celebrate the special bond they share with their dogs.

We are currently inviting early expressions of interest from dog related sports/training clubs, trainers, groomers, service providers, and venders who may like to be involved.
