Sadly, this is what Gumdiggers Track entry has looked like for the last few months, thanks to MC and KDC from whom we have had no communication or advice to date re it's future or it's fate!!. But fortunately today I was able to speak to a worker over the fence who was able to shed some light. He is part of the eastern roundabout works and advised they are due to be finished by November, and although the entry won't be reinstated where it is , he assumes it will be connected to a footpath they are building which comes off the roundabout. So that is a positive and hopefully IS the situation. I don't know why MC or KDC couldn't have taken 5 minutes to communicate with us (MRCT) and keep the public informed. A little courtesy goes a long way!!!

Hi All. Two things to note, Mangawhai Estuary Track has now been named Gumdiggers Track to acknowledge the history of the area and the extensive gumdiggings that are adjacent to the track. Also we are having a planting working bee on Saturday 23rd June at 10am. We have 200 plants to plant. Usual story- park at the museum and walk down to the track. Bring a planting tool ,eg, spade or trowel , gloves etc. We will have mulch there to spread and Craig will have the tractor and buckets handy. Rain or shine!! Hope to see you there!

Just an update on the pontoon status. Its been a while but have been giving those responsible plenty of time to make amends or apologies, but sadly nothing. They did have nature on their side though. The pontoon came free from its ties a few weeks ago and drifted down under the bridge. As luck would have it, I spotted it drifting passed our place and called Craig home. Lucky also that it still had a rail still attached underneath and got snagged on the oyster mound off our place. We were able to wade out and drag it close enough to the shore to get a rope attached. The rail preventing us from getting it too close. Now at least we had access to it.On the low ride Craig attempted to right it with his tractor. Unfortunately it couldn't hold it and it fell back down smashing the rail. Then got the tractor stuck, but got it out OK. Without the rail we were able to bring it closer to the shore. Next attempt using the digger and tractor was successful. In the meantime I had informed Mr PC of events and suggested he might at least encourage the boys to wade up the estuary at low tide to recover the other rails, anchors, chains and ropes still up steam. Very disappointed with his response. Apparently it is not illegal to vandalise property and the excuse that it was an accident frees the culprits from liability. He said it wasn't very far for one of us to walk up and pick the stuff up ourselves. I replied that I knew that, but that was hardly the point. Anyway, he said that there was nothing more that he could do and it was in our hands. So to Ms Emily Powley from Garbolino Rd, thanks for your hollow promises made on behalf of your two boys to compensate us for the time, effort and damage to property they have caused us.

Unfortunately we've been posed with a problem due to a couple of larrikins who decided a moment of fun for them was worth more than the trouble and cost they have caused to the community. You all may have noticed the upturned pontoon sitting in the mud above the Molesworth road bridge over Tara Creek. The pontoon is awaiting resource consent to become a feature of the new walk that it lies adjacent to. Last weekend these two youths deliberately swung out on it causing it to flip. Due to its weight, and inaccessibility for vehicles or machinery it is going to be a major to right it. Fortunately my neighbour photographed the culprits vehicles -a white ute reg. UF3502 and a black bike 91ZHQ. Any information about these vehicles or their owners would be appreciated. Cheers, Jeannette
