The Salle Jean Louis Fencing Club traces its history right back to Jean-Louis a fencer of immense and possibly legendary reputation. Born in 1784 Jean-Louis was involved in many duels often defending himself with only a practice Foil against Rapiers. His most famous exploit was however during the Napoleonic wars. On this occasion he fought in single combat the eleven best fencers of an Italian regiment could muster. When only two prevots remained it was decided that honour had been satisfied and the proceedings were called to a halt. Salle Jean Louis fences at
Rangitoto College on Thursday nights from 7:00pm till 9:00 pm - Gym No.2 at the back of the School
Northcote College on Sunday mornings 10- 12 in the Sports Pavillion (note - no gear is provided on Sundays)
Membership is a modest $150 per year which includes free use of Club gear and Group Lessons for beginners and we welcome any one who wishes to come. Simply turn up with loose fitting clothes and court shoes and have a go! While having some of best fencers in New Zealand it is well known that we are also the most social club in New Zealand fencing. Children's Fencing

SJL runs two affilate clubs out of Rangitoto College:

The Rangitoto School Club on a Thursday night from 5.30 till 7.00pm

and Pheonix Fencing for cadets on a Saturday morning 9 till 10am.

Some sad news.
Club Secretary, Treasurer, and long-time member Paul Dunn passed away last weekend.
There will be a memorial service/funeral on Monday 11am at the Northcote Baptist Church, 67 Eban Ave, Hillcrest, Auckland.

Rob Rein an old member has passed away.
