Look at that perfect dive profile! πŸ€ΏπŸ‘ŒπŸ’™

We were lucky enough to visit the Christchurch Hospital's Hyperbaric Medicine Unit for a Diver Safety Evening over the weekend.

As part of this event we completed a 30 chamber dive. Equalising was challenging on the descent as the temperature increased and volumes decreased - we watched bottles, tennis balls and balloons shrink 🎈

Some divers completed a narcosis exercise while others blew up their own balloons at depth. As we ascended again temperatures dropped and balloons popped.

It was a great experience for everyone that attended and a BIG thank you to the team of Doctors, Nurses and Technicians that volunteered their time and expertise to run the event πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

✨ What an incredible Night Seahorse Snorkel! βœ¨πŸŒ™

We had an amazing evening exploring Wellington's underwater world after dark, and we're thrilled to say that everyone got to see seahorses! 🐴🌊

There's something truly special about slipping beneath the surface at night and discovering a whole different side of our local marine environment. From fascinating nocturnal creatures to the magic of seeing the reef come alive under torchlight, it was a night to remember.

After our adventure, everyone warmed up with hot drinks and a well-deserved choccy fish while sharing stories and highlights from the snorkel. β˜•πŸ«

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a success!

Due to the fantastic feedback, we'll be running another Night Seahorse Snorkel on the 2nd July. To book in Phone: 04 568 5028 or email: [email protected]

We understand that maintenance is important - look at the fiasco at Moa Point but is the only other option to dump wastewater directly onto the coast? πŸ˜‘πŸ’©βŒπŸ€ΏβŒπŸŸβŒπŸ¦

Planned maintenance at Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant:

UPDATE 2 - 2/6

Last week the main outfall pipeline was shut down and emptied to allow scheduled maintenance to begin. This work will continue over six weeks, finishing on 5 July 2026.

Inspection works are now underway between Seaview and Sunshine Bay. You may notice rolling stop/go traffic management as this work progresses.

Once inspection work is complete, we will then repair any faults that are found which may mean more static traffic management for a day or two while repairs are made

Thank you for your patience as these works are underway, we are working to minimise disruptions as much as possible.

We’ll keep you updated as work progresses.

Please contact call 04 912 4400 or email [email protected] if you need more information.

--------------------------------

UPDATE 1 - 28/5

The main outfall pipeline has now been shut down and emptied to allow scheduled maintenance on the pipe and related structures to get underway. Maintenance is planned over six weeks through to 5 July 2026.

For more information, including discharge locations, please see our website: https://www.wellingtonwater.co.nz/your-water-2/topic/wastewater-2/wastewater-treatment-plants/seaview-wastewater-treatment-plant

--------------------------------

From Monday 25 May, the main outfall pipeline to Pencarrow will be shut down for up to six weeks while essential maintenance is carried out to keep the system running safely and reliably.

During this time:

- Fully treated wastewater will be temporarily discharged from coastal points (for up to 5 days) and into the WaiwhetΕ« Stream while the pipeline is empty.
- Signage will be in place - please avoid swimming and gathering kaimoana near discharge areas.
- Crews will be working across multiple sites, with some traffic management in place.

There are no expected health, environmental, or odour risks, and all work is being carried out under resource consent.

We appreciate your patience while this important work is completed.
