Randwick Rugby League Sports Club Inc

Randwick Rugby League Sports Club Inc We must first acknowledge the efforts of everyone who has been a part of the 90 year long journey.

Randwick Rugby League Club is the 2nd longest surviving club affiliated to Wellington Rugby League, and we can all stand tall and proud as we recognise this magnificent achievement - 2020 saw us celebrate our 90th birthday!! We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our foundation members who way back in 1930, saw the need to establish a 'new' rugby league club, from what can only be described as a very

small beginnings based at Randwick School in Moera. Back then, Moera was a 'village' undergoing a huge transformation into a quickly established community built around the Railway Workshops. In one of New Zealand's truly last "working class" areas, the platform was set and with the suburb of Moera experiencing a rapid population growth, it also had to provide for the social and sporting needs of the day. Randwick School officially opened in October 1929 and become the first 'home' of Randwick Rugby League, before it set up base in the 'shack' at Strand Park, only to be lost in the fire of 1982. That forced a move to Naenae Park where we have been based ever since. Randwick Rugby League has been synonymous with producing many champion teams and players in that time, and we continue to uphold the values and principles that our forefathers set for us. To those of you that have served in any capacity within the Kingfisher family, you will know that the path to success must continue and we are duty bound to follow the course that has been charted for us

The club has been blessed with some of NZ's finest players, Jack Hemi, Ron Westerby, John Whittaker (1970-84), Kevin Tamati (83), Barry Edkins (83), Barry Harvey (87-89), Tony Kemp (87), Stephen Kearney (87), Denvour Johnson (93) all were Test Players, while George Lajpold (86-87) was a touring player. We are also pleased with our Women selected for Kiwi Ferns, Fuarosa Time (2005), Ana Pereira (2008-12), Ake Pereira (2010-2012), Bridget Smith (2010) Maryann Colllins (2010) and Geneva Webber (2012)

The Club is second only to Petone in the number of Wellington Premierships they have won 1944, 1946, 1947 (share with Marist), 1956, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1976, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1996, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014 & 2020. The Club has also appeared in National Club Knock-out Finals, unfortunatley all as runners up 1982 vs Petone, 1983 vs Otahuhu, 1984 vs Mt Albert, 1985 vs Manukau, 1986 vs Northcote

The Randwick Womens team have been crowned Wellington Champions in 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2016. This club has a very family orientated spirit which is perhaps why they have had success over the years. with the increase in interest of Rugby League from the mid 80's, the club has enjoyed a healthy Junior section which has seen the club always consistently one of the better performers locally

Today our Under 16 boys stood together to honour and acknowledge the passing of their team mate Amos’s much loved grandfather.
They then took this kinship in to our game and played as a unit coming away with a good win 54 to 20 over the Upper Hutt Tigers.
Although there were some outstanding individual tries scored, everyone played their part leading in to them and it is good to see the drills and skills Darryl and Willie are teaching them at training are transferring on to the field….B2B…

Our club has been an active participant in the HV Sports Awards for several years, with the primary goal of offsetting seasonal expenses. During the event, our members ensured that attendees remained hydrated, while also lending a hand with table settings and post-event cleanup. The volunteer spirit and dedication displayed by everyone involved was truly inspiring, reflecting the club's core values.

Despite having limited resources, we take pride in our club's strong sense of community and the commitment of its members, who always step up when needed.

As chairperson, I am proud to be part of a whanau-focused club that prioritises the development of its members to be good people both on and off the field.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to our part in the night being a success.

Forever grateful, Tina.
