Being a personal trainer with a chronic pain condition is very interesting and comes with it's own set of unique challenges but in my own fitness journey it's been the hardest. I was officially diagnosed late last year after 5 years of misdiagnosis, being ignored by medical professionals and countless tests and scans.
Up until very recently I never trained with my conditions in mind, I didn't think I could I thought I had to push through the pain to get to where I wanted but all I was doing was running backwards with the progress both physically and mentally. I'd struggle to finish a 30 minute session and gave my self countless injuries and flare ups. One session at the gym would have me out for days barely able to walk. I felt like if been hit by a truck. When I started this job I stopped training, I knew I couldn't push myself and then be in agony for days, I had to be at work. So when I got a myself a trainer a month ago I was scared of how my body was going to react but it's been amazing. We've started from scratch, building up strength and stability in my joints (no compound lifts to be seen 😔😅) my body has never felt so good after a workout and I can do the full hour and a half session without my body punishing me later. It's something I honestly thought was impossible and and that pain and excercise just went hand and hand with a chronic pain diagnosis.
With proper care and programming that takes in to consideration my disabilities I've been able to exercise pain free and find my love for exercise for myself again.
