Linton FC 2024 Season Review
Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I last posted, so I thought I’d take a moment to share an update on how the season went.
Season Overview: We kicked off the season with strong turnouts at our musters and training sessions, which allowed us to enter two teams: one in the Manawatu Championship and another in Manawatu Division One.
Reserves:
The reserves had a challenging season, but they showed great determination, always battling hard, no matter the opponent or the score line. Some of the highlights were two wins against Takaro and a solid away victory in Levin. A huge cup quarter-final win against Marist Park Rangers was also a standout moment for the team.
Reserves Awards:
Most Improved Player: Alex Walczak
Players Player: Chris Jones
Golden Boot: Chris Jones
MVP: Chris Jones
1sts:
The 1sts had a fantastic season, going unbeaten for the majority of the year and only losing one game. They triumphed in every competition they entered, winning the Manawatu Championship, the Top 4 Split competition, and the Charity Cup. It’s hard to put into words the quality of football we played this season, but those who were there will remember the incredible moments.
1sts Awards:
Most Improved Player: Daniel Glanfield
Players Player: Mitchell Kite
Golden Boot: Keelan Marson-Wood
MVP: Keelan Marson-Wood
Club Golden Boot: Keelan Marson-Wood
Also a big congratulations to all the players selected for the Army Football team and those who were picked for the NZDF Football Team!
Thank You:
A massive thank you to the following people who made this season possible:
TK – For doing all the background work that keeps the club running smoothly. Without you, none of this would be possible.
Margi – For always being a sounding board when it comes to lineups and sorting out the kit.
Charlie – Thanks for taking care of ordering things as needed.
Spence – For your help with Comet and handling the registration stuff, I’d have been lost without you.
Liam C – Thanks for keeping the reserves motivated and getting them ready for battle each week.
Jack F, Liam H and Alex W - thanks for ALWAYS turning up to training the 3 of you were there 95% of the time, as a coach i love that.
To everyone who helped at training or on match days – from setting up nets, balls, and flags, cleaning up the changing rooms and helping get people into camp.
To those posting away or leaving the army, thank you. You will be missed and don't be strangers.
And finally, to all the players, their partners, families, and friends – you created a fantastic atmosphere both on and off the pitch, making the season truly enjoyable.
Linton FC is in a great place, and 2025 looks extremely promising. We hope the 1sts will make the leap into the Premiership, and the reserves can focus more on becoming a more "social" team! If you're interested in playing in 2025, keep an eye out for flyers around camp, check here, or look in the group chat. And if you’d like to help out behind the scenes, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thanks again for an amazing season, team – see you in 2025!
KEEP LINTON GREAT
