Hi Team- please read if you are planning on attending the gym this coming Saturday!
On 6th August between 10:45am - 1pm we are doing something a bit different and fun! We are going to be working with the Horowhenua Dog Obedience Training Club, who are running an Ssanz scent novice trial for some of their dogs.
They are going to be using the gym during these 2 hours.
We are asking that if you are planning on having a workout on this day, that you work it around these 2 hours, as the dogs taking the test are young and will not do well with loud banging during their test.
Members of the gym and the general public are welcome to come along and quietly watch from the sidelines as the dogs take their test, and there will also be an opportunity for a meet and greet with the dogs.

There are 4 parts to the test including searching a container, a vehicle, an outdoor area and an indoor area (which part of our facility will be used for).
Containers filled with clove oil will be hidden by a judge and each dog will have 3 minutes to sniff out theses hides.
Dogs of all breeds from Dachshunds to German Shepherds, work with their owners doing scent trialing and for some of them they will go on to do important jobs for the community, such as search and rescue, drug detection at airports/mail rooms/prisons, and working with a bomb squad.
Some owners work with their dogs not to further a career for them but for a fun activity to do together, that enriches the dogs life and strengthens the bond between dog and owner.
