Sorry to hear Richard My Ride Levin is off with C19... keep up the fluids....

Been busy at work and with family so have had to ease back from TDTA...

GOOD NEWS... $1,000+ raised so far from Trade Me sales (60%) and cash donations (40%)...

Extending TDTA into May... aiming for $2.5K ... will focus on bike sales... if I can get enough frames and gear....

TDTA Fundraising @ 3/3/22

Through March I will continue to post my experiences on the road and on the track with the Levin Cycling Club.

But more and more I will start to zero in on the nitty gritty of what this cause is all about... raising money to help disabled people in Tonga...

The Road - do these colour dots at the Domain mean that long overdue makeover of the track is happening soon?

The Community - There's a really talented group of young track riders Horowhenua College being coached by Richard My Ride Levin on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Horowhenua District Council Velodrome.

The Message - Love to see more youngsters coming along and having a go on the track...

Now that my biking challenges are done, I can now focus more on the fundraising...

BY GOLLY... do I need to crank this up as not that much is being donated... BUT that might be because I haven't promoted the fundraiser that much, just yet... I'm working on it...

FOR SURE... I want to talk more about Tongans, Disability and Disasters and why this fundraiser is so important in ensuring NO TONGANS ARE LEFT BEHIND in Tonga's recovery from the January disasters...

There's a lot to understand....
*** who are the Tongan people?
*** what is disability?
*** what's it like living with a disability?
*** what are the impact of disasters on disabled people?
*** what's needed to help prepare disabled people for disasters and emergencies?

OK, that's a heavy duty list of questions... that I won't be getting into right now.... but I'll be back to it in my posts during March....

The Road - a precious wee find down from Horowhenua College...

The Ride - a lovely recovery ride doing my favourite circuit around Levin but needed
35km for the legs to warm up....

The Body - a bit delicate after a 10 day block of riding...

The Mission - Finally got the 2,000 km in 28 days.... 30% of riding done on the track...

Day 27 Ride Report @ Trackathon @ 27/2/22

The Road - 440 laps @ the beautiful Levin Velodrome supported by Horowhenua District Council - THANK YOU!!

The Ride - I didn't think about it too much while on the bike... I trusted the 1,750 kms of endurance training from the previous 26 days, kept my focus and just got on with it... and of course, having family, friends, young riders and Richard My Ride Levin there as Chief Mechanic made all the difference in getting me across the finish line....

The Body - Not unexpectedly my legs were toasted after 200km riding 49/ 18t gearing at around 27.5 kph for the duration on the track... but actually I came through it pretty well... my nutrition and hydration strategy was spot on... two flat whites (thanks EVE), one sausage role, half a mince pie, two ham, cheese & tomato sandwiches, two jelly snakes, three frooze balls, 3.0 litres H20 & 1.0 litre gooey electrolyte stuff... perfect!

The Mission - job done... first time I've ever ridden 200km in one day and on a fixed gear track bike too... A MAGIC DAY...

Day 27 Trackathon @ Levin Domain @ 27/2/22

Ride Report to follow.... most importantly a HUGE THANKS to those who made the Trackathon an extra special day, especially Richard Ride Levin, President Levin Cycling Club & brand new first-time grand-dad whose track support & emergency bike mechanics helped get me to the finish line; multi-talented young riders Mini, Hannah, PJ + Red who with the support of their parents gave up big chunks of their Sunday's to be there and managed some serious mileage too (100km+); Evan the Groundsman from Horowhenua District Council who was there first thing to open the gates; my good cycling friend and supporter Mike of Wellington Vets & other fame who popped in to wish me well; Donna the cyclist teacher ?Horowhenua College who popped in to check on pupils above, "donning" gear to do a few laps; last but not least MEGA-THANKS to my own family without whom I cannot do my cycling let alone this Appeal - Patricia who drove me to the track & helped set me up at the start line, Rome (the big newbie sprinter) and Eve (who got back on her bike after two years off) who between them rode in support for a few hours with the young lad at HQ holding the fort... and finally a special tribute to Doug Mabey whose track bike "The Mogul" I rode and to whom this never-to-be-repeated event was dedicated.... BLESS YOU ALL FOR MAKING MY DAY A SPECIAL AND MEMORABLE ONE!!!!

THANKS My Ride Levin, Horowhenua District Council , Wellington Masters Cycling Club and PNP Road Cycling Club for support of my "TRACKATHON" ride for the Tongan Disability Tsunami Appeal!!!!

This ride will be dedicated to "Doug Mabey" - ex-Wellington Vets President, endurance cyclist and a great cycling buddy tragically lost in a cycling accident a while ago.

I'll be riding Doug's "MOGUL" track bike from 9 am to 5 pm attempting to ride as many laps as I can in 8 hours!!!

Come and say hello, bring your bike and keep me company on the track for a while....

"Gold" coin donation will not only support the Appeal... it also gets you in the draw for a super chocolate and lolly giveaway prize for guessing total laps or kms covered over 8 hours.
