Rising Star Alert!

At just 18 years old, Te Arani Vulu is making her mark in the Central Manawa team during the 2026 Synergy Hair Netball League.

Fresh out of St Mary's College Wellington, Te Arani has seamlessly stepped up to the SHNL level, featuring in every game this season and helping Manawa continue their strong growth throughout the competition.

A former NZ Secondary Schools netball representative and NZ 7s rugby talent, Te Arani is now focused on pursuing her netball dreams, with aspirations of one day pulling on the Pulse dress.

As Manawa prepare for their final match of the season, Te Arani reflects on a year of learning, growth, and the support of a team environment that has helped every player take their game to the next level.

The future is bright for this talented young midcourter!

After making the move from Dunedin to Wellington, Southby faced her former side Southern Blast in Round 1 of the Synergy Hair Netball League β€” coached by her mum Janine Southby and featuring sister Ella Southby in the shooting circle.

Despite early nerves, Manawa stormed home in the second half to claim a 51-39 victory πŸ™Œ

Southby says the move north has been about stepping outside her comfort zone, embracing new opportunities and pushing her game to the next level β€” and she’s loving every minute of it.

β€œIt was really important to stamp our mark from Round 1… every game is a final.”
