It’s was girl’s day out at Nopera today.

Hazel Wilkes dominated the Bayleys Open tournament to become a hugely popular winner of the premier event of our clubs calendar. (Hazel’s garden must be struggling because her golf game is going from strength to strength). Her sunny disposition and willingness to get stuck in to the hard work to keep our fantastic little course in top shape are inspirational. We are really proud of her today.

Angie, Hazel, Sandra, Rose (ohmigod Rose) and Mel proved Graeme Codlin’s donated garden seat was very robust, and overall the blokes were very much put in their place by the gentler gender. It was another fabulous day in paradise with golf merely being an excuse for us to enjoy our community.

Special thanks to Dot, Kimmy and Sheryl for the most amazing dinner, and to our sponsors who make the day possible. We are grateful to you all.

Just a note to all golfers. The New Zealand Open is on in Queenstown, but that’s the second most important event this weekend.

The Bayley’s Nopera Open is also taking place, so we have to close the course to casual play for the day.

As there will be no television coverage on the day, spectators will have to attend in person.

The most under-rated golfer, treasurer, resident entomologist and one of the hardest working volunteers at Nopera Golf, Sandy Jones just became the 2025 champion nett golf winner in highly competitive field of monthly medallists.

She is a very popular victor and it’s great to see her in good form before the classic next weekend.

Well done Mrs. Jones. Please feel free to give Mr. Jones plenty of advice and reminders of your superior skills for the next 12 months.

Wairau Valley Golf Club came, saw, and provided fantastic company today in our newly annual inter club event. Nopera took the trophy but local knowledge was important and tomorrow we expect to retrieve dozens if not hundreds of balls from the creek. (Three of them belong to me guys, they are yellow and have my initials on them).

Now we are turning our attention to the weekend of the Bayleys Classic. This year will be a little different with a surprise twist, which we aren’t announcing yet (or it wouldn’t be a surprise), to add to the mix.

A call for entries will be made next week, and places are limited.

The Pōhutukawa tree at Nopera Golf Course is putting on a great seasonal display along with some recently planted Hebes amongst the wild flowers. We warmly welcome Pelorus Mailboat as our latest tee box sponsor and we also welcome all casual Green Fee players to enjoy the course.

NOPERA IS IN MINT CONDITION FOR THE ANNUAL BATTLE OF THE BAYS COMPETITION.

As a consequence of the tournament, the course is CLOSED for casual players on Saturday, November 1.

Visitors please note that due to the recent weather, our dinghy was damaged and one of its oars has been lost, so if you intend to use the club mooring, please bring a tender to transport yourself ashore.

(Yes. This is a cunning ploy by the locals to gain an unfair initial advantage).
