Last Saturday we had a lively turnout for the doubles competition from a cross-section of players, despite a few late injury withdrawals. Unlikely heroes of the day were Barry Lauder & Roger Madill. In the first round of the main draw, Barry & Roger (with a combined age of 165 years) warmed up Josh & Jared (combined age of 55 years) before going into the plate rounds. They said they were delighted to have come second in their matches and their smiles were contagious!

Men’s
Josh & Jared won the finals against runners-up Michael Shanley & Patrick Thorp in two sets 6-3 6-2.
Their semi-finals was won against Stu Clarke & Paul Hoggard, and Michael & Patrick had prevailed against Alan Powell & Brian Taylor.

The Plate Round, which is the competition amongst those who lost their first matches in the Main Draw, was won by Clive Donald & Andy Wallis.

Women’s
On the day this became a round-robin competition between the three teams left standing.

Jane & Lyudmila won both their matches;
~ 9-4 vs Tori Horsley & Krista Tahau
~ 9-2 vs Cushla Ward & Lorraine Wenzlick;
and Tori & Krista became runners-up after winning against Cushla & Lorraine.

Big Congratulations to this year’s mixed doubles champions Michael Shanley and Krista Tahau. Winners over James Eldridge & Liz Johnson in two sets 6-4 6-3. This was the first day of championships for our club this year with more coming in the following weeks.
