Our Club was founded in 1927, and since then we have been enjoying sailing on the superb lower reaches of the Waimakariri River at Kairaki.

The Waimakariri Sailing Club has been North Canterbury's only sailing club for over 90 years. With a mix of adventures and serious racing, the Waimakariri Sailing Club welcomes all new members including those with America's Cup aspirations to those wanting to have an adventure as a family or with friends. The club has fantastic facilities, a friendly atmosphere, all the help and support you need and boats to sail so come one, come all and enjoy an experience of a life time, for a life time.

Last Sunday was a great day on the water for winter sailing. Photos from John Simpson. A great fleet including 7 zephyrs, a finn, a sunburst, a papertiger, a firebug, starlings, and p class.

Thanks to our volunteers including Cameron Jones as race officer while Jo was in Dunedin upskilling in Race Management.

Winter Sailing Day 1 is scheduled for this Sunday, 14 June. Race Start at 12.30pm.

Can you please message us or comment on this post to let us know your intention is to sail this Sunday so we can prepare. Sounds like there are some visitors from other clubs planning on joining in.

And that is a wrap for our 2025/2026 sailing season. Thanks to everyone who made today another amazing day at the Waimakariri Sailing Club today.

With visitors today from Stewarts Gully Sailing Club Mount Pleasant Yacht Club Christchurch Yacht Club Naval Point Club Lyttelton Pleasant Point Yacht Club and former members including our former patron Ron Mackie.

We were privileged to have our mayor Dan Gordon close our season.

Club Sailing at the river Saturday 11.30am race start, Sunday 12.30pm

No learn to sail at the lake but all are welcome at the river either day. There will be support at the river both days.

Sunday some zeohyrs will be sailing on the estuary as part of the Zephyr Canterbury champs and there is a two day regatta at PPYC for the firebugs this weekend also.

This weekend we have sailing tomorrow (Saturday) late afternoon - racing for everyone, but trophies are for female skippers :)

Race start is 5pm.

Learn to sail will be on at the lake at 10.30am on Sunday.

Learn to Sail Waimakariri 2023-2025 Learn to sail is on at the lake tomorrow at 10.30am.

There is the marathon race on tomorrow also. Race start at 12.30pm. Race start is down nearer Stewarts Gully Sailing Club so be there early.
