Vague alert just in from Metlink for Hutt road, southbound.
Anyone's guess if it's just off-peak, and exactly what those alighting on Thorndon Quay are expected to do.

Ngauranga: Jarden Mile and Hutt Road bus stop closures and bus detour
Monday 9 March - Friday 13 March
"Detour due to roadworks or construction"

Services Affected 1 & 52
Stops Affected: 3254, 3256, 3258, 5486, 5488, 5492, 5496 and 5498

The RTI system it seems hasn't caught up as there's nothing showing for 'closed stops'

I am aware of an ongoing issue with Snapper terminals on Wellington Metlink buses. If you have any *evidence backed* stories about being incorrectly charged (on/off-peak, or missed transfers) due to incorrect clocks on the bus Snapper terminals, I'd like to hear more (feel free to DM those stories)

Tonight, residents of Johnsonville and the Northern suburbs have an opportunity to hear from candidates for Greater Wellington Regional Council in the upcoming election. Come along!

GWRC manages natural resources and services that cross the boundaries of territorial authorities like Wellington and Porirua councils. Issues like like regional public transport, freshwater and flood management, regional parks, biodiversity and biosecurity, and regional planning and resilience. They also plan and fund Metlink public transport across the region.

The Johnsonville Community Association is running the meeting, and we’re very keen to hear about all these topics and more

Public transport
Reliability, frequency and capacity matters because many local commuters depend on trains and buses. Also, good quality services reduce car use, ease congestion, and support local businesses. And GWRC councillors have levers like planning and funding Metlink services, setting service levels and timetables, investing in capacity improvements (e.g. rolling stock, decent buses, and the Johnsonville Hub interchange.

The Johnsonville transport hub and last-mile connections matter because the hub is the interface between trains, buses, walking and cycling. Improving it will make public transport a real choice for more people. Councillors get to approve designs, funding prioritisation, partnership with Wellington City Council and Waka Kotahi on hub upgrades, bus-train integration and active-travel links.

Fares, including Snapper and its replacement and integration all affect whether people choose public transport. Councillors can pull levers on fare policy and integrated ticketing decisions for Metlink; candidate commitments here can have immediate commuter impact.

Flood risk
The stormwater infrastructure has been at capacity for years, and there’s more building development happening in central Johnsonville and other transport hubs, creating more hard surfaces and runoff, so stormwater risks are increasing. So capacity investment matters as does cohesion with plans by territorial authorities.
Councillors have a significant say in ensuring regional flood protection programmes stay on track, catchment planning and implementation, funding and co-ordination with territorial councils. Candidates should know (and explain) how they’d prioritise investment and risk reduction without large rate shocks.

Water catchment quality
GWRC has a role in freshwater management and water quality standards that affect recreation, biodiversity and long-term resilience.
Councillors can pull levers for freshwater plans and consent decisions, and work with city councils and water providers on catchment health and infrastructure. What will candidates do to balance water quality improvements with cost pressures?

Climate
Resilience and natural-hazard planning matter because we all face more frequent storms, landslips and sea-level impacts.
Will our regional councillors help the northern suburbs with practical adaptation plans risk assessments and funding and working with central government for co-funded resilience?
Biodiversity, regional parks and recreation
Green spaces and pest control matter too. Regional councillors get a say on regional parks, pest-control programmes, biodiversity funding and community partnerships.

Remember JCA is hosting a ‘meet the candidates’ event for GWRC candidates on Thursday 21st August, in the Trust Room (upstairs) at the Johnsonville Community Centre. Doors open at 7pm s…
