50 Games for Johnsonville – Finlay Sharp

This Saturday on Old Timers Day, Finlay Sharp will bring up an outstanding milestone, playing his 50th game for the Johnsonville Hawks.

Since arriving from England three years ago with his partner and mates Regan and Joe, Fin has become a huge part of the Hawks whānau both on and off the field. What started as a move halfway around the world has turned into a lasting connection with the club and community.

A hard-working, reliable, and versatile player, Fin can cover just about anywhere in the backline. He brings speed, strength, and consistency every time he pulls on the jersey. Whether it's making a big carry, chasing down a kick, or stepping into a different position for the team, Fin always puts the club first.

As one of the club captains, Fin leads with passion and energy. He's never afraid to give the boys a well-timed gee up when it's needed, and his commitment and standards have earned the respect of teammates, coaches, and supporters alike.

One thing is for sure you'll definitely hear Finlay on the field on Saturday! His voice, leadership, and enthusiasm are a massive part of what makes him such an important member of this team.

The Hawks family are incredibly proud of what you've achieved in your first 50 games and grateful for everything you continue to contribute to the club.
Congratulations on reaching this milestone, Fin. Here's to many more games for the Hawks.

Up the Hawks! 🦅💙❤️🏉

200 Games for a Wellington Club Rugby Legend – Ha'amea 'Ahio

This Saturday on Old Timers Day, we celebrate an incredible milestone as Ha'amea 'Ahio runs out for his 200th club rugby game against Pōneke Rugby Club.

Having played 150 of those games for the mighty Johnsonville Hawks, Haams has also had successful stints with Marist St Pat's Rugby Club and Oriental-Rongotai Rugby Football Club, making him one of the most experienced and respected club rugby players in Wellington.

As we mentioned earlier this year when he brought up his 150th game for Johnsonville, Haams is the definition of a club man hard-working, committed, and someone who leads by example both on and off the field. His dedication, toughness, and loyalty to the game have earned the respect of teammates, opponents, coaches, and supporters alike.

To reach 200 club games is a remarkable achievement and a testament to years of sacrifice, consistency, and passion for rugby. Milestones like this don't come around often, and it's fitting that it happens on the mighty Old Timers Day, surrounded by the people and club community that have been part of the journey.

The entire Hawks whānau are incredibly proud of you, Haams. Thank you for everything you have given to the game, the club, and the generations of players who have followed in your footsteps.

And while there have been plenty of highlights over the years, one thing has remained the same Haams' famous show and go. After 200 games, defenders should know it's coming by now... but maybe this Saturday it'll finally work! 😂

Congratulations on 200 games, legend. Here's to another big performance this Saturday.

Up the Hawks! 🦅💙

Teamshot Tuesday 010: Johnsonville Rugby Football Club U85kg 2022

The Johnsonville Terrahawks U85kg side did the ‘double’ in 2022, winning the first round JC Bowl (team pictured here with that trophy) and the Championship second round Paul Potiki Shield.

The Terrahawks won the JC Bowl with a record of 11 wins from 11 matches in the 12-team round-robin series, also finishing 11 points on the ladder ahead of second placed Poneke.

The side’s captain was Tahana Firmin and the team was coached by Northern United Premier centurion Rob Aloe.

The team was a mixture of youth and experience, with six players in the squad that had made the Paul Potiki Shield in 2016 but fallen to the Tawa Titans. These players were Rawiri Atkins, Shane Mathie, player-assistant coach Andrew Paul, former halfback turned prop Aaron Franklin, Nick Ward (injured at the time of this win) and assistant coach Brad Young. Connor Nolan was the vice-captain and one other player, Jason Robertson, made the trip over the hill from Masterton each week to play for the Terrahawks.

Players with plenty of Premiers experience included Corey Lawrence (MSP /Johnsonville), Brady Cutting (Petone/ Johnsonville), Sam Tuala (Tawa), brothers Zyrus and Levi Grace (Johnsonville) and coach Rob Aloe.

On to the Championship Paul Potiki Shield and the Terrahawks had the first week bye before defeating the OBU Scallywags 22-10 and then falling to the Upper Hutt Rams 25-16 in their first loss of the season. The Terrahwawks and the Rams met the following week at Fraser Park on U85kg and Colts Finals Day and Johnsonville prevailed 37-5 to lift the Paul Potiki Shield.

Their overall season record was played 14, won 13, points for 293, points against 104.

This was Johnsonville’s third Division one U85kg Championship win (since its inception in 1996), following triumphs in 2002 and 2004. They had also lost the final to the Tawa Titans in 2016.

Clubs to do the ‘double’ and win the JC Bowl/Paul Potiki Shield in the same season:
• Old Boys University: 2000, 2023
• Pōneke: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
• Marist St Pat’s: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014
• Tawa: 2015, 2025
• Wellington: 2017
• Avalon: 2019
• Upper Hutt Rams: 2020
• Johnsonville: 2022
