🏁 Race Day Recap – A Tough End to a Solid Start 🏁

Race day at Highlands Motorsport Park delivered sunshine, fast laps, and a good dose of learning for the TJR Motorsport crew. The day started strong — car was feeling solid, pace was building, and we were settling in for the long haul.

A few teething issues popped up early on, but nothing we couldn’t fight through. The new car was proving itself and we were getting into the rhythm… until disaster struck.

A set of snapped wheel bolts brought our 8-hour campaign to an early end after 7 hours and 139 laps — not the finish we’d hoped for, but that’s racing. Sometimes the smallest parts write the biggest chapters.

We’ll take the lessons, regroup, and come back stronger. Thanks to everyone who supported us — sponsors, friends, family, and everyone who backed us through Buy Our Backs. You were with us every lap.

Onward.

✅ We’ve Made It – Highlands Bound and Track Ready! 🏁

After months of late nights, busted knuckles, and last-minute parts runs, TJR Motorsport has officially arrived at Highlands Motorsport Park! The car is off the trailer, through scrutineering, and ready to hit the track tomorrow for the big one.

It’s a surreal feeling seeing the #222 lined up with the other teams, especially knowing how far we’ve come since the old blue Golf days. From shed-floor prep to race-day reality — we’re here, and we’re legit.

Massive thanks to everyone who helped us get this far — from our sponsors to the mates who held the spanners and told us we weren’t totally insane for entering an 8-hour enduro.

Let’s go racing.

This week’s shout-out goes to Turbo Bits, our go-to team for everything performance. From tuning advice to the parts that keep the GTI breathing fire, these guys know their stuff and have been a massive help getting us ready for Highlands. 💨

If you’re chasing more boost, more flow, or just solid local knowledge — hit up Turbo Bits. They’re the real deal.

Big thanks to the crew for jumping onboard and supporting grassroots motorsport!

Counting down to race day — and giving thanks to the legends who’ve backed us along the way. This season, we’re proud to have The Gofer onboard — providing relief staff for your farming business and now helping keep Team 222 rolling strong.

Their support has helped us take another big step forward with the car, and you’ll spot their logo proudly displayed on the bonnet and rear quarter panels of the GTI.

If you’re in the farming game and need reliable relief staff, check them out — local, dependable, and now part of our race family.

Big thanks to The Gofer for backing grassroots motorsport right here in Southland! ❤️💪

🟡 #222 Lives On 🟡
A new to us car, but the same fighting number.

Today we added a special piece of identity to the new Golf — race number 222, proudly continuing the legacy from our old car. It’s more than just digits on glass; it’s a symbol of everything we’ve built, the races we’ve fought, and the people backing us every step of the way.

That number has taken on Highlands, and levels. It’s seen checkered flags, heartbreaks, and sand traps. And now, it gets bolted back in for the next chapter — faster, louder, and just as stubborn as ever.

New car, same team, same spirit.
Let’s see where this next evolution of 222 takes us. 💪

📸: Final prep underway – big thanks to everyone keeping this dream rolling.

🕒 Racing History: 24 Hours of Le Mans – Endurance, Innovation, and Legends

Since 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans has stood as the ultimate test of what a race car and its team can do. The first race featured 33 cars from marques like Bugatti, Delage, and Bentley — all aiming to push themselves over public roads converted to racetrack for a full day and night.

Winning Le Mans is never just about speed. It’s about balancing sheer pace with endurance. Teams battle everything: daylight vs darkness, hot vs cold, rain vs dust, mechanical failures, and driver fatigue. Back in 1923 the winning average speed was just ~92 km/h, showing how much both machinery and strategy had to be tested from the very start.

Over the decades, Le Mans has been where tech advances were forced into being. The addition of chicanes to slow down the Munsanne Straight after cars began hitting 400 km/h speeds. Closed vs open‐cockpit designs. Fuel regulations. Nighttime lighting improvements. Tires that could survive hours of flat spots.
