Final Footy Weekend Wrap Up…
Windy start to the final games for the 2024 season. So proud of how far all the kids have come this year and looking forward to our Junior Prizegiving on Thursday!
Fun Football
Final game for the fun footballers. We had two teams playing and everyone went out trying their best. No wins but lots of heart. Players of the day were Ramai and Thomas.
9th Grade
It was a cold wind this morning but gee it didn’t affect this team! Playing Thistle down two teammates meant it was going to be a hard game. Thistle started fast with an early goal but good chasing from everyone allowed Cyraul to bring us back level. An own goal by Thistle really helped our enthusiasm and determination seeing Phoenix score also, going into halftime with the lead. I reminded the team about not bunching and needing to pass so we wouldn’t get too tired. Last halftime chat, so they finally listened and went on a goal hunting mission. Cyraul nabbed another and Phoenix not wanting to be out done slotted another two to bring up a hat trick. Not to mention all the shots on goal that went oh so close! Starting from the back, well done to Kiera who played an amazing whole game in goal, she had some amazing saves! Mr Brickwall (aka Elliot) had another solid game, it was never in doubt he would come away with the ball when it counted. Cora continues to amaze me, another huge leap in confidence, getting some nice touches and chasing hard. (those pep talks about kicking her brother might be paying off ). Max also had a solid game with a few trademark long shots, lots of nice passes up to the forwards and unlucky himself not to get on the score sheet. As said before Cyraul and Phoenix both had a great game, passing well and getting into position around the field, player of the match went to Phoenix for his hat trick. That was a great way to end the season with a convincing win. A couple of stats to close out, 12 games played, 8 wins 3 loses and one draw, a huge 47 goals scored and 21 conceded helped get us a top place finish in the main competition. Well done 9th grade Shooting Stars team of 2024!!!
11th Grade
A fresh but sunny morning welcomed us for our 11th grade match up with Thistle Blue to end our winter season. We started strong and really took the game to Thistle while also competing with a significant head wind. This positive play was rewarded with an expert finish from Leo, which started with excellent distribution from Manawa in goal, out to Cruz and Liam down our right hand side. As the half closed we conceded a mucky goal to take us into half time all even. The second half plan was for more of the same, but a 5 minute period where we let Thistle take control of the game saw them score goals as a result. The remainder of the half saw lots of positive play but there was no reward for our efforts, with the game finishing in a loss. Player of the day was Cruz for some decisive interceptions and doing a great job of carrying out the game plan! Reflecting on our result we took lots of positives out of the game. The main one being an improvement in the score line from when we played the same opposition earlier in the season. A third place finish in the main competition was an excellent achievement by these lads that have learnt a great deal about football and themselves over the season.
Looking forward to the upcoming 7-a-side comp and the 2025 season already, as these boys have set the bar high with their achievements this year!!! 12 games played, 6 wins 6 losses, 41 goals scored (9 diff scorers) and 29 conceded. 4 players in this team could still be playing 9th or 10th grade! Well done to 11th grade Shooting Stars team of 2024!!!
Finally, on a Senior note, the small squad of merry men have enjoyed their 2024 season and getting together every Saturday for a few laughs, a little football and a few more beers!!! A huge thankyou to our competition sponsors, Fat Bastard Pies, who have kept us in good shape all season with our player of the day pies. They sure taste good with a decent beer!!!
