Karate for Mental Health: Pink Shirt Day at Inglewood Dojo

This Thursday, the Global Kyokushin Organisation Inglewood Dojo is standing tall for Pink Shirt Day! We’re trading our traditional white dogi for pink to support a powerful cause.

What is Pink Shirt Day?
Pink Shirt Day is a global movement focused on ending bullying and spreading kindness. It’s a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating a world where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected—regardless of their differences.
Building Confidence to Stop Bullying

In Kyokushin Karate, we do more than just teach techniques; we build resilience and character. Here is how our practice helps students face the challenges of bullying:

* Inner Strength: Karate develops the self-assurance needed to stay calm under pressure.

* Boundaries: Students learn to carry themselves with a presence that discourages negative peer interactions.

* Respect & Empathy: By practicing the Dojo Kun, we foster a culture of mutual respect, teaching students to stand up for one another.

* Mental Fortitude: The discipline of training helps build the Budo Spirit—the grit to persevere through difficult situations.

Join us this Thursday at the Mamaku Center! Wear your pink shirt and let's show our community that there is no room for bullying in our dojos or our schools.

Strength in Tradition | Power in Evolution

At the Global Kyokushin Organisation, our doors and our mats are open to martial artists from all styles and backgrounds.

We don't believe in being "better" than anyone else. Instead, we believe that true mastery is only achieved through the humble exchange of knowledge.
We are all walking toward the same destination; we simply choose different paths and carry different ideas to get there.
By sharing those perspectives, we all grow stronger together.
Whether you are looking to sharpen your technique, understand a new approach to kata, or simply find a community of like-minded practitioners, you are welcome here.

"The heart of our karate is real fighting. There can be no proof without real fighting. Without proof there is no trust. Without trust there is no respect. This is a definition in the world of martial arts."
— Sosai Masutatsu Oyama

Let’s keep evolving. Let’s keep sharing.

🥋 Term 1 is Calling: Get Back on the Mats!
Dust off your gi and find your belt—it’s time to kick into gear for 2026! We’re stoked to announce our Term 1 start dates, and we want to see you there ready to put in the hard yards.
Whether you're looking to sharpen your focus, build some serious core strength, or just find that bit of "me time" through Kyokushin, this is the year to do it.
🗓️ When are we starting?
We’re hitting the ground running at both locations:
Merrilands (Honbu) Dojo: Monday, 26th January
Inglewood Dojo: Thursday, 29th January
Why jump in this term?
Kyokushin isn't just about throwing a punch; it’s about determination and camaraderie. You’ll be training under instructors who’ve been in the game for over 40 years. They’ve seen it all and are ready to guide you through everything from technical Sabaki (movement) to practical self-defense.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned black belt or you’ve never stepped foot on a mat before—everyone’s welcome in our dojo family. We’re all about building confidence, staying humble, and pushing each other to be just a little bit better than we were yesterday.
"Osu! Let’s make this year one for the books. See you at training!"

More Than Just a Place to Train: The GKO "Third Space" 🥋🏯
We all have our "First Space" (Home) and our "Second Space" (Work or School). But do you have a Third Space?
In sociology, a Third Space is a community anchor where you can be yourself, leave your titles at the door, and grow alongside others. For us, that space is the Global Kyokushin Organization (GKO) dojo. 👊
Why the GKO Dojo is the ultimate Third Space:
✅ Total Equality: On the mat, it doesn’t matter what your job title is or how much is in your bank account. In a Gi, we are all students of the "Ultimate Truth."
✅ The "Osu" Bond: There is a unique friendship that forms when you sweat, struggle, and persevere through a tough class together. Shared hardship builds the strongest bones—and the strongest friendships.
✅ Digital Detox: In a world of notifications, the dojo is one of the few places where you are 100% present. No phones, no emails—just focus, breath, and spirit.
✅ A Second Family: From our youngest karateka to our senior Senpais, we are a multi-generational community that supports one another inside and outside the dojo walls.
Whether you're looking to build resilience, find a mental escape, or join a tribe that pushes you to be your best, the GKO dojo is waiting for you.

🥋 More than just a word: The Spirit of Osu
In the world of Budo, the word "Osu" (or Ossu) is the heartbeat of the dojo. But it is far more than a simple greeting.
Osu no Seishin (The Spirit of Osu) stems from two characters:
* Oshi: To push
* Shinobu: To endure
Together, they mean "to persevere while being pushed."
This is the true tie to Budo. Martial arts aren't just about high kicks or perfect form; they are about the refusal to give up when your body is tired and your mind wants to quit. That "Osu" is a promise to yourself to suppress your ego, endure the pressure, and come out stronger on the other side.
Next time you bow, remember: You aren't just saying hello—you are committing to the grind. 💪

✨ Sabaki = the art of movement 🥋
In Ashihara, it’s the *heart* of the style—step off the line, enter the blind spot, and turn defense into offense.
In Kyokushin, it’s the *edge*—smart footwork and angles that transform raw power into strategy.
Different paths, same principle: control through movement.
