THE PENROSE CHAPTER — the coaches 🥊

It's not easy being a boxing coach. You have to be a mentor, a counsellor, a doctor. A cleaner, a cook, a chef, a dishwasher. All of it.

It started with Chad, our first boxing coach. Then Henry stepped in and kept the team going — things moving through a big chapter of growth.

Then Harry came, and Harry brought a whole team with him for the bulk of those years. He and his crew built something epic — picking up some awesome accolades and fighting really hard.

And right through to the final bell, Kasi and Ken picked up the pads and kept the standard high — Kasi with the energy and the graft, Ken quietly getting it done in the background. Both poured everything in when it mattered most. Thank you, Ken. Thank you, Kasi.

To every coach who ever called a round, held a pad, or backed a fighter into the ring here — thank you. You didn't just teach boxing. You built people. That's the bit that lasts. 🤍💚

THE PENROSE CHAPTER — how it started 🥊

Five years ago this was an empty shell and a big idea.

Then came the roof: two weeks up a ladder with a roller, three coats to get it black. Somewhere around coat one it was "oh no… what have I done?" 😅 Best thing we ever did. (Don't ask about the buckets of paint that tipped over in the car — absolute carnage.)

We were laying the floor at 1am the night before we opened. Cutting it fine doesn't quite cover it.

But here's the truth — none of it was a one-man job. Andre from Tronic Electrical and I worked endless hours to pull it off (still not sure how we managed it 😅), Jazzy and Jeremy got stuck into the painting, Kahu drove the marketing, and half our trainers rolled up their sleeves at some point. Everyone bought into the dream — that's what built this place.

From an empty room to a home for hundreds. What a start.

THE PENROSE CHAPTER 🥊

Five years ago we rolled three coats of black onto a roof (two weeks on a roller — don't ask 😅), laid the floor at 1am the night before, and threw open the doors at The Box Office Penrose.

This Monday the 15th, we ring the final bell.

Five years. Countless rounds, fight nights, early mornings and friendships. This isn't a sad goodbye — it's a thank you. So every day until we close, we'll share the moments and the people who made this place.

From the first bell to the last — thank you, Penrose. Let's send it off right. 🤍💚

🏆 GOLDEN GLOVES CHAMPIONS 🏆

4 fighters. 4 gold medals. 4 champions. A clean sweep at Golden Gloves 2026 over King's Birthday weekend in Tauranga — every single one of our boxers stepped into the ring and came home with gold. 100% success. 🥊

An update on The Box Office Penrose.

After a lot of reflection, we've made the call to close our Penrose location on Monday 15th of June and consolidate everything at our Howick gym.

This isn't a step back ” it's a step into One gym, One culture and One space. Our best coaches. Our best equipment. The whole community in one room.

If you're a Penrose member, you've already heard from us personally. Your spot at Howick is held, and your first month at Howick is on us. We'd love to see you come across.

If you've trained with us at Penrose at any point over the years, thank you.
