I can feel it happening myself…
That little voice that says F*&% it till next year!
It’s the same voice that visits every year, and it tries to convince us that it’s okay to forget about our healthy habits.
The same habits we’ve worked hard to maintain during the year.
It makes no sense. These are the things that we know make us feel really good.
And we know that when we don’t do them, we don’t feel good, and we end up further away from our goals.
Whether it’s getting those workouts in, keeping the steps up or even just getting enough water and quality sleep – we convince ourselves that these things just don’t matter during the holidays.
It’s hard work. The internal monologues and the mind games we play with ourselves end up dominating our holidays.
At the same time, we end up blaming those one or two days during the holidays and even stress over how to avoid the things we really want on those special days.
Of course, we end up having the things we want anyway!
By the time we head back to work our clothes are tighter, and the scales have shifted the wrong way. And we end up feeling guilty and crap about ourselves.
Then that same little voice comes back to convince us that this is all just an inevitable part of the festive season.
But that’s just not true.
You can have the best of both worlds.
You can (and should) enjoy the holidays and all the food and drink that goes with it, and not end up in worse shape by the end of it.
Whilst you may have more social events and days “off plan” right now, it’s all the more reason to stay consistent during the holidays.
Have that second helping, eat the cake, finish the box of chocolates, have another wine – it’s the holidays!
But ALSO get your workout in, keep your steps up, drink your water, and get your beauty sleep!
So, as tempting as it might be to ditch everything until next year, DON’T.
Break the cycle instead and create a new habit of being consistent, whilst enjoying the days that matter the most.
After all, if we want results that last then we need to strike a lifestyle balance.
