Letβs Fast Forward Flaxmere: Henry Heke seeks re-election to accelerate change
Flaxmere is on the cusp of transformation, and sitting councillor Henry Heke wants to make sure it doesnβt stall.
With over 20 years as a proud local, Heke is seeking re-election on a bold, future-focused platform: βLetβs Fast Forward Flaxmere.β
His mission is to turn accelerate progress across housing, safety, economic development, and community infrastructure.
βIβm standing to fast-track the future. Flaxmere canβt wait another 10 years. The time to invest, to lead, and to deliver is now,β says Heke.
Heke announced a clear, actionable to-do list that reflects what Flaxmere needs now, and where itβs going next.
1. Housing, Health & Wellbeing That Meets the Moment
Advance affordable and senior housing so every whΔnau and kaumΔtua has a warm, quality home. Strengthen local access to healthcare and mental wellbeing services with fit-for-purpose community facilities.
2. Safer Streets, Stronger Communities
Crack down on dirt bikes, reckless driving, and public intimidation. Advocate for better street lighting, upgraded road safety, and real partnerships with Police, rangatahi services, and local leaders.
3. A Reimagined Town Centre
Breathe new life into the Flaxmere township with vibrant design, community spaces, and better access.
βWe need a town centre that reflects our identity, proud, modern, and thriving.β
4. Business Growth from the Ground Up
Establish a Flaxmere Business Hub and Business Association to back local entrepreneurs, create jobs, and attract new investment. Build the economic backbone Flaxmere deserves.
5. Emergency Services Where We Live
With the population pushing past 14,500, push hard for a dedicated Fire Station and Ambulance Service in Flaxmere to cut response times and strengthen local resilience.
6. Infrastructure That Works for WhΔnau
Fast-track upgrades to roads, footpaths, crossings, and key intersections, especially around kura and parks, so infrastructure keeps pace with Flaxmereβs growth.
βIβve lived here, worked here, and led here. I know what matters to our people because Iβm one of them. Weβve made real gains, but weβre not done, and Iβm not done. This is about finishing the job and shaping the future,β Heke says.
With a strong background in health leadership, business, and iwi engagement, Heke has earned trust across sectors and generations. His commitment remains clear: kaupapa MΔori, community-led development, and fighting for Flaxmere to get its fair share.
βFlaxmere is ready. Letβs fast forward.β
