Hawkes Bay Youth Theatre is a training company for dedicated young actors and theatre-makers.

We offer drama classes and performance opportunities to students aged 7-19.

Yesterday a brave group of Associates and Seniors took to the streets in cuddly character as part of the annual Blossom Parade, to the delight of the young and young at heart. Ka pai!

Manawanui - the qualities of commitment, consistency and courage, is part of HaBYT’s core kaupapa. We commit to creative exploration with bravery, maturity and genuine curiosity.

In the final weeks of production more than ever, our actors and directors must persevere with the dedication needed to make it to the stage. Ka pai!

The Soothsayer, a prophetic oracle as mysterious as he is cryptic, is played by Associate, Finn Taylor.

“Beware the Ides of March!”

Finn also plays Cinna the poet, an unfortunately named innocent who pays for his namesake’s transgressions.

“I dreamt tonight that I did feast with Caesar.”

Murellus, tribune of the people, and scornful of the cult of Caesar, is played by Associate, Olivia McMillan.

“You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things.”

Olivia also plays Strato, Brutus’ faithful servant.

Flavius, tribune of the people, and skeptical of Caesar, is played by Associate, Samantha Gore.

“These growing feathers pluck’d from Caesar’s wing will make him fly an ordinary pitch,who else would soar above the view of men and keep us all in servile fearfulness.”

Sam also plays famed orator Cicero, a Greek in the Roman senate whose wit is only exceeded by her arrogance.

“This disturbed sky is not to walk in.”

Sam also takes the role of Brutus’ loyal companion, Volumnius.

Artemidorus, rhetorical scholar and Caesarian loyalist, is played by Senior Company member, Alexis Barnett.

Decius Brutus, deceitful, silver tongued conspirator, is played by Senior Company member, Ethan Pipe.

“From you great Rome shall suck reviving blood.”

Casca, keen eyed and quick tongued conspirator, is played by Senior Company member, Peyton Lewis.

“So every bondman in her own hand bears the power to cancel her captivity.”

Peyton also plays Octavius, Caesar’s named heir, a young green soldier, eager to prove herself in battle and claim her birthright.

“Defiance, traitors, hurl we in your teeth: If you dare fight today, come to the field; if not, when you have stomachs.”

Witness Casca conspire against Caesar, and Octavius strive to follow in his footsteps in HaBYT’s production of Julius Caesar, in association with the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival, this October 9 & 10 at Toitoi Functions.

Calpurnia, wife to Caesar, doomed to have her superstitious premonitions ignored, is played by Senior Company member, Esadora Carney-McKnight.

“When beggars die, there are no comets seen; the heaven’s themselves blaze forth the death of princes.”

Esa also plays Cinna, one of the conspirators against Caesar’s reign.

“Liberty! Freedom! Tyranny is dead!”

Witness Calpurnia attempt to protect her husband, and Cinna’s hand in his downfall in HaBYT’s production of Julius Caesar, in association with the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival, this October 9 & 10 at Toitoi Functions.
