Special shout out to Levi! ⚡️After starting in our pathways programme Levi has recently graduated into our athlete development sessions.

He’s now working with our coaches on a strength and conditioning plan building specifically to target the key demands in Levi’s key sports Swimming and Rugby 🏊‍♂️🏉

“It has made me prepared by focussing on technique rather than weight- The coaches being very supportive, and giving me tips on my sport development, which has resulted in me being more explosive and predominant on all sports fields.”

Our pathways programme (targeted for ages 10-14) acts as a stepping stone for learning the key movement fundamentals needed in training.

If you know a young athlete looking to make progress, we would love to see more faces! Come for a free trial - sessions run Monday's 4pm

Thank you to our programme partners TUMU Group 🧡

*** Update on car park resurfacing ***

Please allow extra time for parking.
We encourage use of the car park at the city end of the Hawke's Bay Regional Aquatic Centre if you are able to walk easily, leaving the car parks by the Gym for members, patients or public that require close proximity for parking.

A year ago, Sheila couldn't swim a length. This June, she's swimming 10 kilometres.

Ingrid, Heather and Sheila, also known as “The Backstroke Ladies” (nicknamed by our lifeguards). Ages 71, 72, and 77. A combined age of 220 years 💙

Ingrid first came to the pool with her late husband, who lived with Alzheimer's.

Heather came for rehabilitation.

Sheila came for the coffee afterwards, and because her friend convinced her to try. A long way from not wanting to get her hair wet.

One year later, they're swimming 40 lengths a session. And this June, all three have signed up for Coastguard New Zealand, aiming to swim 10 kilometres each across the month.

They only swim backstroke. They meet at the café after every session. And they don't let each other skip.

If you've been putting off getting in the pool, this might just give you the motivation to start.

The 10–14 age range is one of the most important windows in an athlete's development.

Good training starts with understanding that different modes of training are more effective at certain times of child’s developing years 📈

Our Youth Pathways Programme is age appropriate, engaging, and built around how young athletes learn best.

Our sessions emphasise fundamental movement patterns, coordination, speed and change of direction while developing strength and control through foundational movement patterns - all things that carry into their sport and everyday life.

This one-hour session is worth adding to the schedule for active sports kids.

Slay May round two! ✌️ This session definitely made us step out of the comfort zone and challenge ourselves, and that's exactly what it’s all about.

Getting comfortable being uncomfortable.

A massive thanks to Damon Harvey for pushing us – and so many businesses across the month of May. Getting vulnerable together, sharing awareness and sparking conversations around mental health.

This challenge has been the perfect reminder that movement is medicine, and doing it together makes it even better 🤝💙

It’s not too late to make a donation to the Slay May cause. All proceeds go to our local charities Spark That Chat and Mates4Life

Our Aquatic Centre carpark will begin resurfacing works from Wednesday 3 June (with some disruptions and works beginning Tuesday) 🚧

These works are scheduled to last 3 weeks and a section of the car park will be out of action during this period.

Early stages (stage1)
You'll still be able to get through to the car park in front of the gym via a single one-way lane.

Mid-way through (stage2)
Access to the gym car park will shift to a two-way road between the trees.

Signage and traffic management will be in place throughout to guide you. Please take care while driving and follow the signage provided.

Thank you for your patience while we get this improvement underway 🧡
