Calm waters, cold mornings and a crew that keeps showing up.

Every paddle is more than training — it’s connection, resilience, laughter and whānau.

Whether we’re in the waka, cheering from the sidelines, or taking time to recover (sending lots of Manawa love to our unwell peeps 💙💚) — we move forward together.

On Saturday night at Onyx Cambridge we acknowledged, celebrated and thanked our sweep and coach, Michele Cranefield.

Michele doesn’t just steer our boat — she steers the chaos, the chatter and the occasional excuse, somehow always getting us where we need to be.

With trademark sass, quick wit and unwavering dedication, she brings out the best in every paddler. From taking on sweep training herself to coaching us all, her commitment to Manawa Dragons is truly extraordinary.

A little bit fierce and a whole lot fabulous, Michele is more than our sweep and coach — she’s a treasured friend, mentor and a very valued part of our Manawa whānau.

Amazing … This 594 year old dragon boat is kept in mud to preserve it. Fantastic to see the past being honoured, today being celebrated, and the spirit of dragon boating being kept alive 🐉🐲

Well, what a fabulous 1st AGM after the inception of Manawa Dragons in July 2025.

Manawa Dragons whanau you are all amazing . Your contribution to the team on and off the water is infectious and a delight.

The evening at Onyx Cambridge was wonderful, fun, full of warm fuzzies and whoops of joy as another member came through the door to the beautifully decorated room.

The beautiful Coach’s Awards were organised and presented by Michele.
The paddler awards made by Lance, Sandii and Sueze are very special and were presented by Sandii.

It was great having coach and paddler selected awards. Many congratulations to all recipients.

The new committee (Keith, Kuni, Mouse, Sueze, Sandii, Caron and Jan) is full of enthusiasm, passion and a great “will do attitude”.
Life jackets on and get ready for the waka ride over the next year 🎉
