Last Saturday we saw the Waikato Divisional XV take on the Northern Invitational XV in a friendly match in Tahuna and there was plenty of Kereone representation out there!

The Northern Invitational XV featured four of our Kereone players:
Cody Hansen, Damian Silvester, Odis Ngare and Garrett Hill.

There were also a couple of familiar Kereone faces with the whistle and flags:
Referee – Bevin McQuiod, Kereone Senior player 1994–95
Assistant Referee – Stephen Scherer, Kereone Senior player and Coach

On the other side, Owen Van der Meulen was out there representing the Waikato Divisional XV, who came away with the 31–17 win!

Pretty awesome to see so many Kereone connections out on the field players past and present, coaches and officials all involved in a great day of rugby.

A couple of great games at Ōhaupō Rugby Sports Club will round out the final weekend of Bluegrass Contracting Waikato Divisional XV footy for 2026.

The Under 21 side will have a Hamilton Colts Selection in the 11am curtain-raiser at Ōhaupō Memorial Park.

At 1pm, the Divisional XV will face King Country Development in hopes of becoming back-to-back Northern Regional Divisional men’s champions.

A great line-up of rugby in the lead up to Waikato’s 5.05pm Ranfurly Shield challenge in Northland.
