We were lucky enough to have superstar physiologist from come and talk to us about training zones, recovery and programs last night. Hopefully those strange letters and numbers make a little more sense now...

This year we had Sam (bow), Jess (2 seat), Sienna (3 seat) and Holly in our JP who were all still at school. While we encourage athletes to stay within their school programs, something we feel very strongly about is that we continue to provide opportunities for anyone who wants to row, no matter their age 📷

Resident coaching boat dog and leg licker, Sunny. That’s also Joel’s dad Campbell out in the coaching boat with JP coach Hannah. We don’t normally encourage parental ride alongs but since he’s an Olympian and a bit of a technical whizz we made an exception 📷

Holly is our youngest athlete in the JP program. At just 14 years old, she’s on a mission. We celebrate passion for the sport and encourage our athletes to follow their dreams, while trying to look out for their wellbeing. Watch out for this one! 📷

At WRC we promote a whole lot of ownership. We reckon that the best way to perform is to learn how to prepare and take control of your entire performance...so you get the full satisfaction when it goes well but you can’t blame anyone else when it doesn’t. Emma here is a liability- she’s electrocuted herself, deep fried her hand and tripped over more times than we can count..maybe don’t ask her to set your blades... 📷

Where else would you rather spend your days blistered and hanging out with your mates? We head out to Mangakino for all our training camps. At WRC we do a lot of squad sessions where we pace against each other- it’s kind of like watching a yellow army roll in for battle

Our JP is all about experiences- building confidence, competence, self-awareness and comradery. Seth and Westy are good mates who rowed for Saint Paul’s and came to Waikato late in the season. They had a blinder in the club pair and picked up a well deserved bronze. Seth now coaches a bunch of lucky school girls at the school and the last we heard of Westy he was attached to the end of a funnel at Otago University 📷

Our JP program aims to promote growth in our athletes. This is Isaac- he came to WRC from Saint Johns. Isaac worked hard and made some awesome improvements this season, and we’re expecting big things from him in the inty single next year. Over winter he’s working on disproving the fact that rowers are all quad and no hamstring by training for a marathon. He also did this cute pregnancy shoot with the club boys 📷
