** Results Update **

Results are now available on the website as well as via the link provided in Saturday's Facebook post.

While auditing the results yesterday, we noticed that a small number of bibs were not captured as athletes crossed the finish line, despite finish line photos confirming their finish.

These updates (alongside the category changes mentioned in comments) are being worked through with our timing provider and will be corrected as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience while we finalise these adjustments. If you have any concerns about your result, please get in touch.

What a great day!

Everyone had a fantastic time at the Kirikiriroa Marathon and Half Marathon. This was our biggest event yet in terms of participant numbers, and although the weather had its moments, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirit of the day.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to every volunteer who was out there smiling, dancing & cheering participants on, and helping keep everyone safely on course. The positive feedback we’ve received has been amazing.

Thank you to the aid station crews, marshals, finish line team, and all those who helped with the setup and pack down. Your hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication made the event possible.

Events like this simply cannot happen without the support of volunteers like you. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

Thank you for helping make the Kirikiriroa Marathon and Half Marathon & Relay such a successful and memorable day. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🎉

Feeling that high after yesterday’s event? 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Maybe it’s time to join a running club!

Roadrunners are more than just a club! They are a family. You will find encouragement, friendship, and plenty of laughs along the way.

Give them a follow (Hamilton Roadrunners) and, even better head along and join them on a Thursday evening. They welcome runners of all abilities.

The marathon may be over, but your running journey doesn’t have to be.

Thanks Roadrunners we wouldn’t be where we are today without your incredible support!

That is a wrap on another year for Kirikiriroa Marathon!

Along the course today there was plenty of banter and laughter!

There are so many people to thank who made this event possible - our volunteers, sponsors, committee, aid station crews, marshals, supporters, and everyone behind the scenes. We will get to that.

But today isn’t about us.

Today is your moment.

Whether you ran your first half marathon, your fiftieth marathon, completed a relay with friends, walked every step, chased a PB, or simply crossed the finish line when everything in you wanted to stop - today belongs to you.

Take a moment to be proud of what you’ve achieved. (Timing and photos will be shared when ready).

Rest those legs, wear that medal proudly, and tell us:

📸 Share your photos. Tag us!
🏅 Share your finish line moment.
💬 Share your favourite memory from today.

Because today, you are the story. ❤️

When you were 15, would you have run a marathon?

As a chairperson, I have spent countless hours sending health and safety emails explaining why we can do this, or can not do that, and why some rules simply have to exist this year.

Tonight I met Mark!

This is what his friends say …

Tomorrow, 6 June, Mark will line up at the Kirikiriroa Marathon exactly 50 years after running his very first marathon in Hamilton as a 15-year-old.

Mark is one of those true characters of the running world. He carries with him a lifetime of marathon memories, stories of runners and races, and more grit and determination than most of us could imagine. Along the way he has overcome several health challenges, making tomorrow’s race even more significant.

In fact, this will be Mark’s final marathon.

When I met Mark at registration tonight, what struck me was not the stories or the achievement. It was the emotion and quietness. The reflection that comes with looking back across five decades of running. I didn’t know his story at the time and that came after but I knew exactly who it was when it was mentioned.

Fifty years after a 15-year-old boy stood on a start line in Hamilton, he’s back to do it one last time.

Mark, run well tomorrow. We are so honoured to be part of your story. 🏃‍♂️❤️ Kirikiriroa Marathon, Hamilton nzherald.co.nz

One of my favourite moments from bib collection tonight was listening to everyone trying to work out whether they have been part of every Kirikiriroa Marathon from its conception.

I know of 2 runners … there is a possible number 3!.

We started back in 2016, which conveniently aligns with Gmail records and helps settle debate.

Since then we have had two virtual marathons, countless volunteers, committee members, runners, walkers, and supporters who have helped make this event what it is today.

Now, I just want to take a moment….

I need to acknowledge Rob! The man that makes tomorrow happen for you all! Rob absolutely would have been in the conversation, set the record straight and reminded us of the kaupapa of the event!

This got me wondering…

Who else has been with us since 2016? Let’s see who our Kirikiriroa Marathon originals are that are running tomorrow?
